Title: Rome
Today I read about the school system in ancient Rome. There were no public schools, instead parents sent their children to small local schools. Not a lot of girls went to school, school usually started at sunrise and ended early afternoon. The children had summers off. The wealthy families hired tutors to teach them at home, the tutors were Greek slaves. Fathers taught their sons outdoor skills, such as horseback-riding, swimming, and fighting with weapons. One interesting fact I learned is that the children began school at the age of 6 or 7.

Lizards

Lizards are cold blooded creatures. That means that their blood is cold like for real's. That also means that they need sun to keep themselves warm. Whenever someone has a reptile in their house, They will have a 100 watt light bulb so the reptile can keep itself warm. They also have to spray them with water daily so they can stay moist. Chameleons are reptiles that can change colors. They do that to blend into their environment. They want to blend into their environment so their predators can’t see them. Geckos can stick to almost anything.
Geckos stick to everything. Chameleons can change into any color they want. Reptiles are cold blooded.
I didn’t know that Geckos could stick to things.

- chicken soup for the teenage soul
- she told me it was okay to cry
- this story is about two kids that met in the second grade. They became best friends. They would spend their summers winters and nights together. One day in the summer they were at the pool, and he got stung by a bee. He started to tell her how much it hurt then she said she was there and that it was ok to cry. But one day they got separated he moved to California and she moved out of her house. After a couple of months they met up again. Then she started telling her about her love and about her goals and about the drugs and he saw no hope in her. Then she told him she needed a friend and then he saw hope at least he can give her that. She needed his friendship more than ever so he held her hand and told her it was ok to cry so she did.
I like this story because there are many friendships like this. They have been together for their whole life and one ends up losing hope.
One interesting thing that I learned is that it takes time trust and a lot of understanding to gain a close friendship with someone

Title: Elephant May 10,2007
This book was about elephants. Elephants are the largest land animal. When elaphants are born they weigh more that 200 pounds. When its fully grown they weigh about 12,000 pounds. They have a good memory, their smart. They also live in large herds. When male elephants are old they sometimes leave to live alone. They use their trunk to lift stuff up, and heavy things too.
Reflection: I think that the elephants are very powerful because their big and strong.
I feel that its sad that when their old they leave by themselves. Their going to die alone.

Book title: Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul 2
Title: The Funeral of My Rose
Today I read a short story from this book that was based on relationships. In the story there’s this young guy named Derek, who has a crush on his friend Lauren, ever since elementary. To him Lauren was the most beautiful thing in life. The kind of crush where every time she would walk past him, his heart would begin to pound. But as he would try to talk to her, he would get stuck and not be able to say anything. Derek always wanted to comfort her, but he would get too nervous or shy. As one day past he found out that she was going out with some guy named Kevin. One day he decided to go over to her house, with a red rose that he had brought for her. As he went to her house to speak to her, he asked her if it was true if she had been already been with some guy named Kevin. And she replied to him yes, looking really confused. He blurred out, that he didn’t deserve her and that and that he liked her a lot. As soon as she heard that she seemed to look more confused. As she seemed not to really care, Derek left back into his car and drove onto his way home. He realized that he had to get over her. So after that experience he finally figured that, you’re not capable of making someone love you but, the only thing you can do is make yourself a better person for someone to love. One thing I liked about this story was that he seemed to be a very caring guy, one of those guys that there’s only a 1 in a million chance. I think he had much courage to tell the girl who he dreams of how he really feels, and get rejected. One thing I learned is that in relationship there’s always a time where someone loves the other more than their couple and sometimes that person who doesn’t love the other doesn’t realize. But even thow things may be difficult in one relationship, sometimes the next will be a whole lot better and your last relationship will help you to learn from your mistakes. But there is nothing like being love and love back.

1,001 Facts about the Human Body:
In this chapter of the book I read about the skull. It protects the most important organ. The face provides a port for muscles involved in facial expressions talking and chewing. Some facts I learned: the skull contains 22 bones. Eight bones create the cranial vault and support the brain. The face is made up of 14 bones. The skull houses the tine bones of the middle ear there are three on each side. I also learned about a baby’s skull. Since the baby’s skull is still not as developed the skull slides and squeeze through the narrow birth canal. The babies skull has a soft spot. Underneath the skull the spinal cord passes down from the brain into the spinal column through a large hole the foramen magnum. This section is very interesting. There are pictures in this book that show every single bone on your head. They separate them so you can see all of them. Some of these bones are really tiny. I learned some words that I had no idea what they meant. Also I found very interesting that the structures keep all the bones together.

Title: East Asia
Today I read about Mt. Fuji in Japan, Mount Fuji is Japan’s tallest mountain. It is also one of Japan’s 86 actives volcanoes, even though it hasn’t erupted in almost 300 yrs. More than 4 million people live around the mountain. A man named Tracy Dahlby climbed to the top of Mt. Fuji and it took her five hours, over 25 yrs. Ago. He decided to climb it a second time in 2001. Dahlby joined thousands of other people at night time to climb the mountain to arrive at the top of the mountain to see the sunrise. One interesting fact I learned is that the mountain is 12,388 feet.

"Race" by Bart Shnieder
a book of short stories

In this part of the short story, Gerald Early describes his ongoing life. He talks about how being a black professor propelled his career. How during Black History month, he is the center of attention in assemblies at various schools. He remenised on how Woodson started Negro History Week just to give black people pride. Early discussed the lives of many famous African Americans and what they did in life. He talked about how back during the time of slavery, blacks needed a national identity. He talked about Nathaniel Hawthorne and his life. He spoke about many famous blacks and what they did. I like this book because he talks about his feelings of the controversy. I also learned many people need to be recognized for the things they do in life because they did something good.

- Chicken soup for the soul
- The power of determination
- There was this little old fashion country. The classrooms were heated by a pot-bellied coal stove. Every day a little boy had the job of coming to school early and start the fire before every one else arrived. One morning they arrived to find the schoolhouse engulfed in flames. The boy suffered severe burns. When he was in the hospital bed he heard that the doctor told his mom that he would surely die. The boy didn’t want to die so he was determined to survive. With his determination he did.
- I think that this story is great. I think that there are some people like that in the real world. I also think that you shouldn’t underestimate someone.
One thing that I found most interesting was that with determination you can do anything.

The Great Migration.

The part i read in this book was about Voting restrictions. It says that Lawmakers passed laws to prevent African Americans from voting. Acceptions in some states for voting required an education, paying a voting poll, or own a certain amount of land. Without the right to vote, African Americans could not choose their leaders. Jim Crow laws were also enforced. The Jim Crow law required the segregation, seperation of white and black people. I think that seperation of people because they look different is very wrong. Everyone is as important as the next. Someone could lack something that another has. I'm glad that the world has changed and made it alot easier on people. I know that if it were like it used to be, i wouldn't get the rights that the whites would have. I probably wouldn't even be in America.

She spread the rumor. poor lady who the rumor was about. She felt so embarrassed. within a few days the whole neighborhood knew about the gossip. Then later the lady who had first spread the rumor, found out that what she had said about that person was not true. She regretted saying what she had said. And felt bad about what she had done. So one day she went to a old wise sage, for advice. He gave her advice and told her to go the market and buy a chicken. One she had the chicken, she had to kill it her self and on her way home to pull the feathers out and drop them on her way. Then he said come back tomorrow and bring me the feathers you dropped. So the next day she past thru the same way she had done the day before. As she walked by she didn’t find any of the feathers except for only 3, because the wind had blown them away. So she went back with the old man, and told him that she was only able to find 3 feathers. then he explained to her, it is easy to drop gossip but it is not easy to try and pick up the bad thing you did. I think it was a good advice what the old man had gave the chismosa lady. But that was mest up because she opened her big mouth.
One thing I learned before spreading any rumor about someone you should think about how you would feel if someone did that to you. And what if it wasn’t even true.?

♥Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
On Love; Heartstrings
♥This morning I read a short story on a woman who dedicated a lot of her time at the shelter rescuing dogs. She felt like dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love, faith, and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made. One day she decided to go to the local shelter and she ended up finding love. The old dog was considered unadoptable to most people, except herself. An underweight beagle-terrier mix, he had been found running along side the road with three legs, with a hernia, a damaged ear and BBs imbedded in his hind end. She decided to take him home before the shelter put to rest. It was the best decision she could have ever made, they soon became inseparable. She named the dog Tugs, because he would always tug on her heartstrings and she did all she could to make him happy. There was never a day that would by that Tugs was not happy to see her. Everyday when she would come home from work Tugs would greet her at the door, eyes sparkling and his tail wagging excitedly. Finally one day it was time to put Tugs to rest and she wasn’t sad. For once in her life, she didn’t see death as a bad thing. If death means finally joining Tugs, then let it happen when it will.
♥For someone who has never had this kind of experience with a pet would probably not be able to understand it. But if you have loved an animal this way and been loved so fully in return, nothing more needs to be said.

I’m reading a book named When the wind blows and have already read four short chapters. The main characters are Kit Harrison, Max, Mathew, and Fran. Max ran away from the “school” where she was going to be killed for some mysterious incident. Max also doesn’t seem like a normal child. Kit is on his way to Colorado to supposedly to hunt and fish but really he is on a investigation and his real name is Thomas Brenham. Fran is a veterinarian and is trying to help a foe from dying that was hit by a car. The doe is brought to her from a crying little girl. In some way all these characters are related. I think that Max is interesting and I cant wait to learn more about her. The fact thhat I liked the best out the book is the fact that Max ran away and shes a rebel girl.

In the chapters I read in the book When the Wind Blow by James Patterson Kit Harrison meets Fran. They have an intimate encounter. Both of their breaths were taken away at the sight of each other. Max gets shot and is hiding from the hunters who want to put her to sleep as if she was some animal. Max doesn’t seem like a normal girl as I read on. I guess she can fly which is pretty weird. Also hunters are trying to kill her which is also weird. Another weird thing is that Max is like twelve and someone is out to kill her. I think this book is interesting. I think that some way Fran, Kit, and max are all connected in something big. The fact that Max can fly really interest me because when I think of that I wonder if humans will ever be able to fly which would be pretty cool.

French and Indian war troubles with England started in 1763. that is when a war between England and France ended. Americans. England could not afford a new war. We often call this war the French and Indian war. England won the war. At first, the colonies were happy. But that did not last. England passed new laws. The colonist did not like the new laws. One of the laws kept the colonist from moving west of the colonies. Native Americans lived in much of that area. England was with the native

Chicken Soup for the Soul
"Make It Come True"

In 1957 a ten-year-old boy in California set a goal.At the time Jim Brown was the greatest running back ever to play pro football. Then this tall, skinny boy wanted his autograph. When the boy went up to Jim Brown he went ahead and told Jim Brown he was going to break all his records.Jim Brown asked him his name and he responded by saying Orenthal James, but his friends call him O.J.Also O.J. told Jim that he was his idol and has posters of him on his wall.O.J. Simpson went on to break all but three of the rushing records held by Jim Brown before injuries shortened his football career.Goal setting is the strongeest force for human motivation, set a goal and make it come true.

This short story is really inspirational.I think O.J. was really commited to breaking Jim Brown's records. Also he proved Jim that he really meant what he told him because he broke all, but three of Jim Brown's records.

'People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it."
