Title: East Asia
Today I read about Rice and Fish. The Yangtze River is important to the agriculture in China. In the plains along the lower Yangtze river is known as the land of rice and fish, this is the most fertile region in China. The heavy rains from April to October help to produce plentiful crops. Rice is grown in flooded rice fields called paddies. Heavy flooded paddies can also serve as fishponds for raising fish. Farmers produce about 50% of the crops used in China, and they also produce more than 70% of the country’s rice. One interesting fact I learned that buffalo’s help the farmers prepare paddies for planting.
Book title: Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul 3
title: Kim
the story i read today was based on friendship. A young girl who seemed to most often have problems with her parents. moved from wher she used to live with her mother to her dad's house. And where her dad lived there was a couple by the name of Kim and John. They were both very understandive and down to earth. Whenever she would have problems or needed to get out of life. needed time away she would go over to Kim's house, hangout and just talk. Every sunday she would be at Kim's hanging out like normal girls do. Looking at magazines and talking about boys. Kim was older than her, she was an adult, but those kind of adults that are cool as friends and good to chill with. Her and Kim's relationship became closer and her parents would go through phases of jealous. Because she wasn't able to communicate with them as she did with Kim. and there was one day where the girl went through issues and thought about commiting suicide. as ione day she took a bottle of pain medication, without knowing Kim was there to be next to her, as she always was. One thing i liked about this story was thAT it kind of relates to me and how my relationship towards my parents was. Anotherthing is that this girl realized that if Kim were to be her mother things wouldn't be the same. One thing i learned was that no one needs a second mom but just to feel loved unconditionally, without that person having to love her because it's her daughter.

- Gold medal winner
- There was this gold medal weight lifter named Rick. He went to speak at a middle school. When the program was over the principle told him that there was an ill boy that couldn’t make it to the program but wanted to meet him. So he agreed to go visit him. During the drive to the boys house he had found out that the boy had muscular dystrophy. The boy was not expected to live to the age of five, then to the age of ten but the boy was already 13. the boy just talked to her about winning and succeeding in life. He told her that one day he wanted to lift weights with her. Then one summer he received a letter from his parents telling him he had passed away. They gave him a letter that the boy had made for him a few days before. In the letter it said that he knew he would never get a chance to lift weights with him. But that god knew he was not a quitter and that when he gets to heaven and god gives him a medal he will show it to her.
- one interesting thing that I found out is that people shouldn’t quit no matter what their situation is.
Chicken Soup for the soul
"All I Ever Really Needed To know I Learned In Kindergarten"
Well this story is about a guy named Robert and everything he really needed to know he learned in kindergarten. He learned to share everything.Play fair.Say you're sorry when you hit somebody.Wash your hands before you eat.Don't hit people.Don't take things that aren't yours. Finally when you go out into the world, watch for traffic , hold hands and stick together.
I think this story is really neat.Is cool because it's true. You really do learn all you need in kindergarten. You learn to respect people, have good manners, say you're sorry when you hurt somebody,etc...
It would be a better world if we all got along with each other.
Monster
This book is about a teenager who is awaiting trial for a felony murder. His name is Steve Harmon. Steve is only 16 years old. As everything is happening, Steve is writing down whatever he is able to, as a story. Steve could be facing the death penalty or life in prison. I think its crazy how someone so young could be going through so much like that. I understand how he felt getting locked up for the first couple of days. You don't want to eat, everything that happened is doing re-runs through your head over and over again. Sitting in front of the judge is pretty scary too. You can only hope that everything could go as easy as it can on you. Steve is in a more serious position though.
♥ Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
♥ Pets As Helpers; “Finders Keepers”
♥ This morning I read a story about a woman who had two daughters that found a lost beagle. There wasn’t any collar or identification on the dog so she decided to let the dog stay with them. By the end of the first week together, they named the dog Molly and she was already a member of the family. The only that was keeping her from feeling guilty was checking the newspaper for the lost dog. She had been putting it off, selfishly. But she knew that if she was missing her Molly, she’d be going crazy by then. So she did what she had to do, and she found the desperate article. She knew it would break her daughter’s hearts to return Molly, but she had to make the call. Although she was praying no one would answer, a young woman picked up and after describing Molly, she rushed over. As soon as she saw Molly, the lady’s face lit up. She explained that her daughter had suffered from depression and Molly was what helped her. The woman felt guilty for putting off the call but for some reason she didn’t worry too much about how her children would take the news. The children would understand and they could always go and find another Molly.
♥ This story helped me realize that even though it would’ve have easier to pretend like Molly just came a family that didn’t care but you have to put yourself in the other persons’ shoe.
((ALWAYS REMEMBER; KARMA.)) ♥
In the chapters I read in the book When the Wind Blow by James Patterson Kit Harrison meets Fran. They have an intimate encounter. Both of their breaths were taken away at the sight of each other. Max gets shot and is hiding from the hunters who want to put her to sleep as if she was some animal. Max doesn’t seem like a normal girl as I read on. I guess she can fly which is pretty weird. Also hunters are trying to kill her which is also weird. Another weird thing is that Max is like twelve and someone is out to kill her. I think this book is interesting. I think that some way Fran, Kit, and max are all connected in something big. The fact that Max can fly really interest me because when I think of that I wonder if humans will ever be able to fly which would be pretty cool.
Section title: Great mysteries of the past:
Picture description: there are many people that are with no clothes at all but that’s how they live in Australia
Summary: This book talks about how there are many mysteries that have a past. The section that I read is Australia’s native people. And it says that the native population of Australia has been there for more than 50 thousand yeas ago. In January 1788 there was a first British colonist there were 736 male and female. Exiled convicts arrived at Sydney harbor aboard the 11 vessels of the first fleet. There were perhaps 750,000 natives divided among 600 tribes with differing languages and customs. All were deeply rooted in nature men being patient and skilled hunters, women being discriminating plant gatherers.
The great migration
Why would someone want to leave everything that was familiar and move to a distant place. Many African Americans migrated , or moved, from the south to the north. This movement is called the great migration. Life in the south was still very hard for a lot of slaves after the civil war ended in 1865. the third teen amendment had abolished slavery, but for many, freedom was only the first step on the long path toward a better life. Most African Americans lived in small, run down cabins. Their children had little chance for an education.
Renaissance and reformation
In the mid 1300s The colonist did not like the new laws. One of the laws kept the colonist from moving west of the colonies. Native Americans lived in much of that area. England was with the native all the time. Sunday is always a glad day. This time is known as the rebirth this era produced great achievements in the arts and sciences. It also challenged the power of the church, beginning movement for religious change known as the reformation.

"Betty Ann"
This story is about a class of 9th graders who had a new student from a different state coming in, her name was Betty Ann. Betty Ann was smarter than the other students and quiet. I guess you can say the students were jealous and made fun of her because she wrote and talked about things that no one else would have thought about for class. Betty Ann was scheduled partners with Ina, a student who felt bad for her but at the same time, laughed with the classmates toward Betty just to fit in. Well, Ina and Betty were at Betty's house and Ina had a phone call. Betty's mom heard every word that was said over the phone, but pretended she didn't hear anything until Ina had hung up. Betty's mom confronted Ina asking why the girls don't like Betty Ann. Ina didn't know how to answer the question. She'd rather die than answer it. Betty's mom switched her to another school, and Betty Ann had another breakdown there also. Well, a few years later, Ina saw Betty Ann in the doctors office and wanted to appologize for those hectic days they put her through.
I think its pretty stupid to make fun of someone who came from a different state and completely different from you. I love talking to people that are way different from me because you can learn different things from them. If you were to hang out with people who say and do the same things as you it would be boring everyday. I love to learn things from other people.

"The Gossiper"
Gossip is one thing that i really hate. But no matter what, gossiping will always be around. This story is about a woman who gossiped about a neighbor and next thing you know, the whole neighborhood heard about it. The woman learned that the whole story was untrue. So to make up for it, she asked her neighbor what she could do. He told her to buy a chicken, have it killed, and on the way home, pluck out every feather one by one and drop on the street as she goes. After she finished, she asked "Now what?" The man then told her to again walk back down that same road and pick up all the feathers and bring them back the next day. The woman searched for hours and only came back with three feathers. The man then told her "You see, it's easy to drop them, but it's impossible to get them back. So it is with gossip. It doesn't take much to spread a rumor, but once you do, you can never completely undo the wrong." I like this story because it is so true, you can never erase everyones mind and stop them from spreading rumors.

"A Simple Christmas Card."
A girl named Abbie was new to her school. she was very shy and her shyness prevented her from making friends. The only time people would talk to her is when they wanted to cheat off of her paper. Other than that, she would walk around basically invisible. Even Abbie's parents would worry about her thinking she would not make any friends. Abbie's parents were divorced and Abbie needed someone to talk with to help herself feel better. Her parents would try their best to keep her in style but it never worked. Everything was getting so bad to the point that Abbie was thinking about ending her life. Tammy was a girl that Abbie thought of as a buddie. But Tammy was too into having fun without Abbie which made Abbie push closer to the edge. By the time christmas time came, Abbie decided to jump off a bridge while her parents were at a party. She wrote a letter and put it in the mailbox. But when she opened the mailbox there was already a letter in it. There was a letter in there waiting for her from a guy in her youth group. He said he was sorry for not writing sooner, but his parents had just gotten into a divorce and needed someone to talk to and be friends with. She ran into the house and called him right away. She was happy to have someone who wanted to be her friend.

"Please Listen"
This short story is a poem about listening. It talks about asking to be heard. The poem is explaining about how some people come to talk, so they can have someone to listen to them. When someone asks you to listen to them, they're not asking for advice. They're not expecting you to ask them "Why?" If you ask someone "Why" when they ask you to listen to them, it only makes them feel down, they're already at the bottom pit asking for someone to just soak in something that they can no longer hold in. When someone ask's you to listen to them, they're not expecting you to solve their problem. God just listens and lets you work out your own problems. I think this poem is so true because there were times when i tried talking to someone just to talk, and all they could come up with is that i have a problem, or they give me advice or turn me down which would only make me mad or add more sadness to myself.

+Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul
+Written by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, & Kimberly Kirberger
+I read a story about a young girl named Lia, who fell in love with her high school boyfriend. How she quickly assumed that after they broke up she couldn’t live without him. She felt as if she could no longer be who she was without him in her life. Also, that time always heals the pain. Of course, time went by and she eventually learned that she couldn’t love anyone without loving herself first. THE END!
+There really weren’t any interesting facts about this story. I’ve already figured out what she went through.

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul
“ Always Return Your Phone Calls ”
I read a story on friendship. It was about a young girl who had a friend who completely isolated herself from the world and almost killed herself. If it weren’t for her friendship with her best friend , she would’ve taken her life. The reason why it’s titled, “Always Return Your Phone Calls,” is because if she didn’t call her friend back to reassure her that she cared she would’ve been dead by now.

+My Best friend Mike
+A Friend is one who knows you and loves you just the same. – Elbert Hubbard
+This story was about a girl that found out that her best friend Mike was gay. They had been best friend for two years before he confided in her. They were inseperable, always hanging out. She had no idea, but he was acting a little weird right before he told her. His parents were even considering sending him to get professional help. But at the end of the day, although it was going to take some getting used to, she loved him for who he was.

+Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul III
+Friendship; "When Forever Ends"
+This story was about a girl named Molly that lost her best friend. Not literally, but they lost touch. They used to hang out everyday, and spend the entire weekend with eachother. but things changed when her friend got her first serious boyfriend. Instead of hanging out with her friend, she'd choose to be with her boyfriend. Molly tried not to let it get to her but it eventually did. She knew that when things got rough for her and her boyfriend, she'd be back. But it seemed that they were having the most perfect relationship. And when things did get a little bumpy, she would talk to his friends. But in time she realized that if she ever wanted to come back, she would, and she would still be best friends with her.
In the book The Great Mysteries of the Past there was an article that was an article on a man named Majorata that disappeared with out a trace. The article began with him leaving two notes on his bed that consisted of how he wanted to be mourned the second he mailed and explained how sorry he felt that he had to go so abruptly. Before the letter reached its receiver, Majorata sent a telegram that the sea had rejected him and that he was coming home that was the last time that he was heard of. Majorata was a very intelligent man that was very good at math and science he studied under a noble prize winner who claimed that he was among the most brilliant minds that existed. The fact that he was so smart inspired a book on why he went missing posing questions on why he ran away in the first place the strongest theory presented in the book was that he could have felt grief over the some of his works on nuclear material. Later on they posted missing person posters and several people responded. Two theories in general were presented in the book one was that he joined a monastery and the other that he went to Italy to escape. Another was also as one person said that she knew of him and then rejected to offer any further details so the mystery is no more than that, a mystery.
I find it hard to believe that he turned back and tried to join a monastery so I think he is in Italy living another life trying to forget what he wants. If you don’t want to be found it is incredibly hard to be found so it was not right that they searched. But it is morally right because thoughts often change and decisions made in a rash manner often lead to regrets.
Could this man have regrets or did he leave them all behind?

"Just One Drink"
This short story is about a little boy named Chris who had a brother named Michael. Michael went out to dinner with a couple of friends and said he could drive after having on drink. Michael was driving and swirved into another lane on Highway 128. Michael was killed. At two in the morning, Michaels family was getting ready to go to sleep after having a movie night together. The police came and said that there was an accident and Michael had came up dead. I think that it was very sad to hear this story. Its pretty bad to drive even when you had just one drink. One person should atleast be sober and know how to drive.
