Title: Spices
Today I read about the European control over the spice trade. Before the English came, the Dutch quickly took over the Spice Islands, they made the people who lived on the island work for them. The Dutch also stopped the islanders from growing & selling spices themselves. Over time the Dutch changed the islanders culture and the way they lived. The English took over the spice trade in India and as trade grew, more English people settled in India. Like the Dutch did to the islanders, English changed the culture and the way of life for the people of India. One interesting fact I learned is that the English & Dutch held control until the twentieth century.

In the book Great Mysteries of the past, in the section in titled Into the Green Hell it read like book of science fiction could a city truly exist and then vanish with out a trace. The expedition started with what I consider a step in the wrong direction. Fawcett, the head of the operation, thought that it was his last chance to find the lost city so he got money by getting scientific endorsement and selling off books of what he was expecting to find. He also said that if they did not get back that no search parties should be sent thinking of himself so highly that if they did not survive there was no chance anyone else could survive. Later on son Brian got word of white man traveling near the road he said that his name was Fawcett when the son gathered enough information they set off only to not find him. All other clues leading to Fawcett were dead ends him like the city were now lost to what seems like forever.
This is all interesting speculation driving some to get closer to what could be nothing then become like the city that he sought never fully knowing what truly happened.

- Chicken soup for the teenage soul
- The Gossiper
- A woman repeated a bit of gossip about a neighbor. The person that it concerned was deeply hurt and offended. Later the woman that spread the rumor found out that it was untrue. She went to a wise old sage to find out what she could do to repair the damage. He told her to go to the marketplace and buy a chicken and have it killed. The on her way home pluck the feathers and drop them along the road one by one. The next day he told her to go and collect the feathers and bring them back to him. She returned with only three the man said “ you see its easy to drop them but impossible to get them back.” he said that it’s the same thing with gossip its easy to spread the rumor but impossible to take it back.
- I think that this story is true. I say this because a lot of people like to spread rumors. Then they realize they were wrong and cant ever take it back.
- One interesting thing I found was that she realized she had done wrong and couldn’t take it back

Book title: Chicken Soup for the Soul
Title: Start with yourself
Today I read a short poem that was based on learning to love yourself. The words from the poem, where words that were written on an Anglican Bishop tomb, from the Crypts of Westminister Abbey. It talked something about how he when he was young, he had a dream that he wanted to change the world. And as he would past his years growing older he discovered that the world would not change. So instead, he decided that he only wanted to change his country. But later as he realized, he noticed too, that its was something too incapable to do. But as one of the last desperate attempts , he settled to only change his family. But once he was already in his deathbed, he finally came to a conclusion. If only he would of started out by changing himself first. Then his family would see that he was trying to accomplish in becoming a better person. And then maybe his family would be inspired and then it would have been easier to change them. One thing I liked about this story was that, this person seemed to have a great heart. And from this poem it seems to me that he wanted something better for his people. One thing I learned was that before you decide on making any changes, you have to start out with yourself, and if you want to help out others you need to help out yourself first as well.

It’s Your SeX Life
Making smart decisions is easier than you might think. 21 out of 100 women will become pregnant in one year. The female condom protects against STDs, including HIV, and you can get it without a prescription. Abstinence is effective in preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease. It has no medical or hormonal side effects, and doesn’t cost anything. Abstinence only works if you don’t have sex of any kind. This book has a lot of information on sex education.

East Asia

Sumo wrestling is a popular sport in Japan. Muai Thai is very popular in Thailand. Japan is popular for its huge kites. They can make some pretty big kites. Flying kites in Japan began about 1,000 years ago. Every year Mongolian children have a pony race. They do it for three days. The first two days it’s a competition. The third day it is for celebration.
Asia is way different than America. I want to go there. They have a lot of history.
Their food is really good too.

Title: The Native Americans
Section: Plateau And Basin
In this story, Plateau was discovered from central British Columbia, south and across the border, eastern Oregon and Washington. In majority of Idaho it was divided into northwestern Montana, it is laced by rivers. Clear water, boulder, salmon, Beaverhead, and cascade and the blue and bitterroot Mountains is what skirt the Columbian Plateau. Fraser is the lifeblood were the people stay at, their area cover up two hundred thousand square miles, it was marked by forest, mountains and more. the rushing streams open meadowlands and to the south, which it was bordering the northern rim of the Great Basin. The river where rich in fish resources. I learned that the Plateau was very famous to the Native Americans years ago. Also the Native Americans had their own fresh clear water and they had lots of things begin discovered, and they weren’t jus discovered were they had settled. The most interesting fact that I like was that they worked together to get their things to travel so that they could make more profits of the others. And the great basin rivers were rich, but they were only rich because of the fish resources.

Reflection-4/7/07

It never occurred to him until he moved the two children to their resting place in the Bahariya Museum that the so-called curse of the Mummies existed. The idea of a curse connected with mummies has been around since the excavation of the tomb of Tutankhamun by Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon in 1922. It was claimed in newspapers all over the world that several people who had taken part in the discovery had died soon after the pharaoh’s burial chamber was opened.

+Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
+On Love; “Friends”
+This morning I read a short story on the love between a cat and a dog. Twenty-one years ago a couple that lost their daughter who was stillborn, decided to get an eight-week-old Schnauzer to help ease the pain. The couple had developed a strong bond and they were happier than ever. At one point they decided to move out of their New York apartment and move into a home in New Jersey. Once they were settled in, their neighbor’s cat had a litter of kittens and offered them one. They wandered if their dog would get a little jealous but decided to risk it anyway. It was the best decision they could have ever made, Sam & Lightning got along great. As time passed, they became inseparable. Then suddenly, without warning, Sam began suffering from convulsions and was diagnosed as having a weak heart. The couple suffered a lot but Lightning was the one that suffered the most.
+This short story was sick but really sad to read because I hate when people are sad.

Chicken Soup for the Womans Soul.
"Marriage Advice from 1886"

This short story is basically giving advice to the reader. The story has nothing but quotes. "Let your love be stronger than your hate or anger." This quote is true because if you love more than you hate, you will make for friends than enemies. You will also be happier. This quote caught my attention first because, sometimes i let my emotions take over me and i say things i shouldn't have said. Sometimes i argue with people just to argue and i shouldn't be doing that. I learned from this quote =]. It helped me realize that i need to be more caring about others.

Section Title: It’s your sex life
Picture Description: There are young people looking thoughtful.
Summary: The informational booklet that I read today was about how girls shouldn’t feel too much pressure when the guy wants to have sex. And how they could say no to them. It also talk about how it doesn’t matter how long you been with someone or how much your partner wants to do it. Even for the girls that still haven’t had no sexual intercourse should be well inform about the consequences that they might have when she is ready to experience. Lately many teenagers think that having sex is fun or that is just a joke but its not it is something that is really serious and many of them already have kids but the young ages are starting to change I have heard and seen many teens at the age 12 with a kid. What I learn is that thank god I don’t have kids and that I never thought about getting pregnant when I was younger. Sometimes I thank my mom for everything that she has done for me for the past 5 years, I think I would had been a parent a long time ago but my mom safe me from a situation that I had in jr.high. But if I ever get pregnant at least I am a little bit older to confront the consequences.

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul
"I Just Wanted To Be Skinny"

The story I read today is about a girl named Collen.Collen was 14 years old when she was diagnosed as anorexic. Her friend Laura was really stressed out because she thought that the reason Collen was anorexic was all her fault. Also Collen was about to die of a heartattack and that made the situation worse for Laura.1 year has passed and Laura is happy to say that her friend,Collen has been to the hospital only once.Another thing is that Collen is trying really hard to gain weight.Laura knows it's a difficult struggle for Collen, but she knows she will make it.At last Laura feels it's not her fault that her friend was anorexic, but that many young girls just want to be skinny.

I think this story was depressing.Depressing because Collen is not the only girl that's anorexic.Hopefully one day girls would be able to appreciate themselves and respect themselves just the way they are.

1,001 Facts about the Human Body:
In this book I learned that there are about nine systems working in our body all at once. The first one is the skeletal system. The Skeletal system helps us stay up and protects are internal organs. Muscular system is another one. All of the movement that we do is due to the contractions of out muscles. Intergumentary system is made up of shin and hair and nails. This system protects the body and keeps it waterproof. The nervous system sends nerve signals to and form the brain. The Cardiovascular system pumps the blood around the body. This system provides tissues with oxygen and removes all the stuff in our body that we don’t need. Lymphatic system contains immune cells is collected by a network of lymph vessels. Respiratory system is the system that draws oxygenated air into the lungs and pushes out the waste gases. The Digestive system Is 28 ft long it digests food and eliminates the solid body waste. Urinary System is were fluids are filtered from the blood for disposal in the urine. This is some of the things that I learned about in this book. What I find interesting is that all of this systems work at the same time to do anything. Like getting up from the bed or as I am typing this. Its pretty cool I think.

The book I have chosen is The native Americans. I learner that hundreds of years ago the world was suffering from the last part of the ice age. Great ice sheets covered much of north America. And the sea levels fell dramatically reveling land corridors. During this time Neanderthal developed fire for warmth and cooking homo sapiens evolved around 35 000 years ago, a big game hunter with a sophisticated tool kit and great intellectual capacity. Though less robust physically than Neanderthal man. He was more adaptable to climate variations families lived in sub sentinel dwellings and buried their dead with goods. Evidence for homo sapiens first occur in Africa Asia and near east, were they absorbed and replaced the Neanderthal population several millennia later they papered in Australia and Siberia at the time when Europe was under glaciations northern Asia was cold dry and free of glaciers. I feel that the primeval humus were very nomadic and that they were smarter than we think they set the basics for live today. early humans hunted mammoths and other massive creatures.

Most of the Jewish children who were shipped from the Warsaw ghetto and other locations throughout Europe to the death camp were killed upon arrival. Some of the sturdier ones were put to work in one of the easy jobs but then killed after a while of working. This photograph shows two of the 620 survivors from the five-week death march of 1,200 prisoners from
