Very Scary by Tony Johnston

Today's story was boring cauz it was just boring. One night the moon was shining, an orange, pumpkin moon. All the pumpkins by the fence shimmered in its light. The biggest pumkin sioaked up the light till it felt full of moon. A little choir of crickets hopped on top of the pumpkin. They sang creaky-creaky-creaky with all their might because that pumpkin shined so bright.A girl drew a face on it. Then they carved it carefully.

This story is lame. It's really boring and I don't see why little kids would like it. I feel I should write a letter to the author telling him how boring this book is.

Pumpkins are orange.

-Chicken soup for the teenage soul III
-Loving yourself first
-Todays story is about a guy named Harlan. When he was in high school the student council had a fundraiser. The fundraiser was for valentines day. You could buy a flower for someone and have it delivered to them in first period. He had sent out three flowerws to three unsuspecting girls. He figured that he might attract one of them. Their names were Melanie, Susie, and Jenny. The whole week he was thinking about who might send him one. When the day finally came he spotted the student council going into his class. They started giving everyone flowers some even got like six. There was only a couple of flowers left to give. And there was like six or seven of them that still had not receive a flower. Then finally he said the last two names. One for neil and one for harlan, he was relieved there was one for him. He lookede down at the card and saw what he had expected. It wasn’t from Melanie, it wasn’t from Susie, and it definitely wasn’t from Jenny. The card simply said “ happy valentines day – love Harlan. “ his friends never knew who it was from he kept it a secret.
-Todays story was pretty funny. I think that this guy is a loser be cause he had to send himself a flower. I would prefer that no one send me a flower than me sendind one for myself.
-One interesting thing that I learned is that no one can love you better than yourself. Also that if you don’t love yourself no one will.

CNN student news was Taking about the Crisis in Darfur. This crisis risked many lives it all started with a fight that happened back in 2003, and more than 200,000 were killed. Sudan is one of Africa’s largest countries, it’s ¼ the size of the U.S. It’s biggest land mark is the Nile Rile the rest of Sudan is mostly made up of mountains, rivers, deserts, swamps and rain forest. African Americans “blacks” Live in the South and they make up more than 52% of the population. Arabs and Muslims live in the north and make up 39% of the population. In Arabic Sudan means “Land of the Blacks”. People in the United States think there bullies and there power hungry.

In today’s read I read about the historic character King Arthur in an article entitled In search of King Arthur in the book Great Mysteries of the Past. In the Article it focused on the both the literary figure and the factual person that is Arthur. King Arthur’s rule was supposedly a great rule that consisted of great chivalry and peace some say that his rule included 12 years of peace. His story goes that he was a king who was chosen by Fairies in Avalon to become the next king. The truth behind it is that his rule was at the beginning of the dark ages and there were several wars that Arthur partook in he was a warrior as well as a king but through literary change they changed from a warrior into a rightful king.
On this read I learned how the focus of characters can change because of literary focus. Author was a warrior and became know as a peaceful king because of the literary focus was on how he got to b king and not how he maintained his crown.

"Race" by Bart Schneider
A book of short stories

Susan Straight goes back to the subject of her mom being in the hospital. She talked about how her mom was in there and she started have severe headaches. At age 61, she was retired but still had a full time job taking care of all of her family. On the last week of her life, she had to be put into a hospice. That happened because her body was shutting down. Susan said the hospice was only a few blocks away from her house. Susan, Dwayne, and the girls would go there every night. Alberta died while Dwayne left to the parking lot for home. I like this story because Susan was by Alberta’s bedside the whole time she was in the hospital. I think Susan is a good parent and daughter. I also like this book because it is based on a true story.

♥This morning I read a short story in “Chicken Soup for the Teen Soul III”, called Rikki’s Hug. It was about a young girl who seemed to be having just an ordinary day. But slowly her ordinary day was becoming anything but normal. Her day at class was longer than planned because someone caused the teacher to keep them passed the bell. After school she had rehearsal and the scheduled time got pushed over two hours. She planned on going to the gym but didn’t have enough time to. This ordinary day was becoming a bad day. But as soon as she goes home and turns the front door knob, everything gets better. There she stood, her little body clad in Osh-Koshes that have Pooh on them and her little brown curls hanging in a pony tail. “Gaga is home!” She called as soon as she stepped inside. Her little arms ran up and hugged her, followed by a little butterfly kiss on her cheek. Then the sweetest words she could have ever heard came out of her mouth, “I missed you.” It was amazing for her to experience how one simple display of affection, turns everything around. The world suddenly seemed okay and no longer could she find a reason to be mad.
♥My favorite part of the story is when she comes home to her little sister and her whole day turns around. Even though, it didn’t sound that bad, it was still very sweet. ((It reminds me of how someone makes me feel, =D haha ))

Animal Farm

This book is about animals who want to create their own government and run their own farm with out the help of humans. They want to rebel against humans. They do not notice that they do the same things that humans do. They all take votes, they have a leader, they have meetings. I think the animals are going to learn a very big lesson in this. They all memorized a song the leader of the meetings introduced them to. They all loved the song and basically made it their anthem.

Book: Chicken Soup for the Soul
Title: Children learn what they live
Today I read a poem based on kids and learning. When one is young, as you begin to grow you mimic everything the older ones around you seem to do. Because you don’t really know anything when you’re small and kids seem to be in a hurry to grow up. They’ll do anything you do, even if it’s not right. The reason for this is because they don’t know what wrong from right. So they depend on us, the ones around them who they usually see to do the right thing. This short poem lets us view the way society works. That if a child is raised a certain way then, they will grow you that certain way. Many times you’ll find kids who are trouble makers, and their parents seem to not understand why it is so that they act this way. But really with out knowing, or realizing that what they did years before, affects their kids as well as for them. So before you curse in front of your little brother or some kind of little kid, or do something you know isn’t right. Make sure you think twice before committing your actions, because they do copy every little thing we do, with out us even noticing. One thing I liked about this poem is that it shows us a bit on how to be a better role model for kids. One thing I learned after reading this is that if we want a better future and society to live in we need to start acting and doing the right things.

*Spices
Americans most commonly use whole cloves as flavoring in hams. Cloves are also used to flavor pickles and chutneys. Cloves may also be used as a flavoring in fruit dishes such as apple pie. Some people chew cloves to ease toothaches and upset stomachs. Cloves are the dried, unopened flowers of a tropical tree. They were once grown only in the Moluccas. Arab spice traders sold cloves, they would not tell anyone where these spices came from. People liked the smell of cinnamon so much that they used it as a perfume. Ginger is a root that grows in the ground. Fresh ginger should be peeled, cut into very small pieces, and added to food as it cooks. Nutmeg trees were once found only in the Moluccas, or Spice Islands.

Chicken soup for the Teenage Soul:
Today I am reading a story called “Heart Song”. This is a short story about a family. There was this one man who found the love of his life and got married. Then they decided to have a baby. They had a little girl. Ever since she was little the man would sing and dance and tune to her. When the little girl was growing up he would hug her and tell her “ I love you little girl”. The girl would pout and say “ I’m not a little girl anymore.” The man would say to her “ You will always be my little girl to me”. The little girl grew and she moved out of her house. She left to live a life of her own. No matter how far away the little girl went the great men would always call her and say “ I love you little girl. One day the little girl received a phone call. Her father was sick, he had a stroke. When she got to the hospital the doctor told her that he couldn’t move and talk. So then she went towards the man and laid down next to him. She put her head on his chest. He looked at her and tried to speak but he couldn’t. Then she realized the his heart beat out the words that he couldn’t speak. I love you little girl. That is all she heard. And she was comforted.

Friday Blog
In today’s read I read that it was on the case Sacco and Vanzetti in an article entitled Equal Justice For All? In the book Great Mysteries of the Past. The article was on the two men who were unfairly prosecuted for crime they may have had no part in. Sacco and Vanzetti were suspected anarchist and in a time when America was scared of the communist expansion they were tried as Anarchist and brought to trial for a banck robbery they might have had no part in. At the time there was a lot of racial tension thought they were tried for anarchy they were put on trial for being Italian. Supposedly if the trial took place today they would have been let go on account of the lack of evidence that was presented at the trial but because of the fears of America they were incarcerated.
In today’s read I learned of Americas tragic upbringing that it was always a country for all. If the only thing that they were sent for was theses to things that is a disgrace.
The most interesting thing that I learned was that America was not always so grand and open to all people.

I’m reading the book called When The Wind Blows. The author is James Patterson who has written many books. I read chapter 23. They are about Fran and her still tripping out on her seeing a little girl who apparently had wings. She considers calling the police and telling them her story and what she saw that night her friend died. But they would probably think she is crazy since little girls don’t have wings. Kit Harrison surprisingly shows up at Fran’s Inn Patient and helps her out while she cuts open a cat. They are kind of flirting. I think there going to hook up. There is chemistry going on. I can tell by the way they both talk about each other. The interesting fact in this chapter is that I know Kit and Fran are probably going to get together.

Title: Rome
I read about the water system in ancient Rome. Back then a lot of people thought that polluted or dirty water caused disease. To keep people clean & healthy, the Romans built a system of aqueducts. Aqueducts brought millions of gallons (liters) of water from neighboring hills into the city every day. The water was used for drinking and for the baths and fountains. They had lead pipes that connected to the aqueducts supplied water to the houses in the city. The city also had underground sewers to carry away sewage. Today, Rome has modern plumbing, it’s water-supply system is much like the aqueducts of long ago. Pipes still supply the city with water.

Chicken Noodle Soup for the Women’s soul

Title: True Beauty
This story is about a woman and her mother, and the daughter was trying to get something special for her mom on mothers day. So she saved up enough money to buy her mom an image consultation gift certificate. And the mom got her make over she change her style of clothes, got her hair, and make-up done. Then she was examining her self in the mirror and she motioned for her daughter to go see her. And she said to her daughter “look at me I’m beautiful!” and the daughter said back “Yes, Mother, you have always been –Beautiful”
This story was very sweet, it was written by the guy that owned the salon and did the mothers make over. But this shows that the daughter really cares for her mother and to her, her mom is what she wants to grow up to be.

To day I read the book When the Wind Blows. The author is James Patterson. I read chapter 24.In this chapter Max is still worried for her brother. She wants to be with him. To see him. To fly with him. She does have wings and it feels great to fly. She says unless your on drugs you will never feel an experience like flying. She sours through the sky. In between trees, and suddenly has to stop. Earlier in the chapter Max saw a woman. Fran saw a little girl with wings. Both encountered a weird feeling. The interesting fact in this chapter is that Fran is curious to see if its really true. Does a little girl with wings really exist or is she going crazy.Today is friday the 1st of June 2007.

Today I read about Portuguese explorers. In 1418 sailors from the country of Portugal began to explore by sea. They went and sailed down west Africa. Sailors were afraid to go very far. They thought that sea monsters lived far out in the sea. Prince Henry of Portugal supported many expeditions. Prince Henry also set up a navigation school to help explorers. Henry asked mapmakers and geographers to teach at the school.
I thought that prince Henry was a very knowledge person. Also I thought what he did for other explores was very generous. He must have had a lot of experience of exploring and sailing.
The one thing i Learned about prince henry is that he was very powerful and smart.

♥This morning I read a short story called, “She Told Me It Was Okay To Cry,” in Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. It was about two girls that grew up together. They were inseparable and there was nothing they couldn’t tell each other. They met in the second grade and didn’t see each other in five years after high school. They used to talk all night on the phone about boys and in the summer spend the entire day at the pool. She remembered how one day during summer vacation, the writer got stung by a bee. Her best friend held her hand and told her that she was there and that it was okay to cry- and she did. Now, it was the first time they’d seen each other in five years, and this time things had changed. The writer’s friend told her about how her husband was started to physically abuse her and the drugs she was started to use to ease the pain. She told her she needed a friend, and the writer saw hope, because she could at least give her that. She then held her friend’s hand and told her that she was there and that it was okay to cry- and she did. <33
♥My favorite part of this story is how even though the writer hadn’t seen her friend in years, she was there for her. It was pretty sad to read about the abuse but I enjoyed the moral of the story

*The Great Migration June 1, 2007
Every family member was needed to work on the farm at busy times of the year, even the youngest. Most African American children had little time to go to school. African Americans wanted their children to have an education. Education was their only chance to make a better life for themselves. The separate schools for African Americans were poor in every way. Teachers were poorly trained, or sometimes not even trained. More than 300,000 African American soldiers were sent to Europe during World War 1. The African American population more than tripled in three northern cities as a result of the Great Migration. I thought that this book had a lot of facts about the Great Migration.

"Race" by Bart Schneider
A book of short stories FRIDAY BLOG

In this part of the story, Susan Straight talks about the loss of her step mom. She said that when she died, she saw no future ahead of her. Once she got to the parking lot after she left, she broke down into tears. She said now, in between the ages 30 and 40, everyone was losing their parents. She was talked out of being a sad person and desided not to be affected greatly from that loss. The night after the funeral, Susan cleaned Alberta's house to where it was spotless. It came out that after the funeral, everyone fed over a hundred people to show respect for Alberta. I liked that Susan cared so much.

More Mr. And Mrs. Green.
"Fishing"

Mr. and Mrs. Green are alligators that are fishing in a boat. They both love fishing, except today, Mrs. Green doesn't like fishing because her bucket is empty. While Mr. Green is catching many fish, he is on his 16th fish and Mrs. Green basically gets jealous so she decides to switch sides with her husband because he has all the fish on his side of the boat. They find out that that theory wasnt working so they also switched poles. Mr. Green was still catching all the fish, so Mrs. Green decides to take Mr. Greens hat because it is probably lucky. Still, Mrs. Green is not catching fish so she ask's Mr. Green why he is catching so many fish. He says he is using jelly beans. He uses a certain flavor for certain weathers. The fish love jelly beans. They wondered what they would catch with a chocolate chip and there is a picture of a whale swimming under them. I thought that part was a little funny. They won't be able to catch him.

Forever Odd by Dean Koontz
June 1, 2007

Today's story was kind of cool. Odd didn't really do anything. Odd was with Chief Porter in the patrol car and they were looking for Danny. Odd couldn't concentrate like hhe wanted to. Also they didn't find Danny and Odd was thinking about why didn't his special ability work. Then he remembered that when he's using his special ability and looking for someone sometimes he finds them. One thing he revealed was that when he cares for somebody a lot and he looks for that person it's really hard for him. Now Chief Porter dropped Odd at the park and Chief Porter told Odd not to think a lot and Odd promised he wasn't, but he went and sat down at one of park's benches and started thinking.

Today's part was alright. Nothing really happened, but Odd revealed something. The person he's looking for must be someone close to him.

"You're going to win some and lose some...just accept your defeats."

A questionable crossing: A traveler with a potentially deadly illness crosses from Canada into the U.S., even after border security is told to watch out for him. A man with a potentially deadly illness has been moved from Atlanta. Andrew Speaker is in Denver, receiving treatment for tuberculosis, or TB. His version of the disease is very rare. He's been diagnosed with XDR, or extremely drug resistant, TB. Earlier this month, he traveled between North America and Europe, and he might have infected other people who were on the plane with him. So, federal health officials are trying to track down passengers from the flights so they can be tested. Now it turns out that Speaker's father-in-law works for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and one of the diseases he works with is tuberculosis. But he says he's tested regularly for TB, he doesn't have it, and his son-in-law's illness didn't come from him or from the CDC. When Speaker flew to Europe, he already knew that he had TB, and health officials knew it too. There is also another story about a 13-year-old boy named Kunal, who has a lot on his mind. But under those lights, on that stage, he says the most important thing is focus. But Kunal says he lost his focus in the written section of the spelling bee:

This morning on CNN student news, they discussed several topics. Such as, a flight that took off from Atlanta to Paris that had a passenger that might have spread T.B. to the rest of the passengers. His name was Andrew Speaker, he already knew he had T.B. and even though the doctor said that he shouldn’t travel but he did anyways. He knew he couldn’t fly to the United States through the U.S. flights so he went through Canada. The Centers for Disease had informed all the ports of entry to the United States that if Speakers tried to leave, to stop him right away and retain him. The officer that let him get on the plane was relocated to administrative duties. They also talked about the steps President Bush was taking to end the war in Iraq. There was a meeting on Monday with Iran & the United States in Iraq to discuss an end to the war. Iran repeatedly denied that they support either Iran or United States. The world has a responsibility to end the violence for the people. There is also another story about a 13 year old boy named Kunal, who is known to be extremely smart and was in the Spelling Bee. But under all the pressure and spotlight, he says the most important thing is focus. But Kunal says he lost his focus in the written section of the spelling bee.

Section title: My first kiss, and then some
Summary: This chapter talked about how one girl had her first kiss at school. she was barely in high school, she was one of those girls that never went to parties or had been wild. she was also very shy so was her boyfriend they were both sophmores. They were dating for about six months. Most of the time they were together at school after school they wouldn't kissed each other until they became so closed to each other that they ended up kissing that was their first kissed ever since they asked each other out. what I think is that is so weird when a guy is the one that sometimes acts really shy and the girl just be waiting for the first moved. I remember when I had my first kissed and that was when I was 9 years old I was in 3th grade it was sweet because I had a crushed with one of the 5th graders.

Andrew Speaker had been told he was diagnosed with TB. TB is a very rare but deadly illness. Andrew had took a plane like he was told not to, possibly spreading the disease, and leaving the country. Somehow he came back into America and became suspected as a Terrorist. More than 200,000 people have been killed fighting in Sudan. The United Nations calls it the worst in the world. President Bush takes part in the Memorial Day ceremony only saying that those people will never be forgotten. A Young 13 year old Kunal Sah became part of a Spelling Bee. He could not concentrate on winning though because he thought that if he won, he can get his parents to come back into the U.S. He lost his concentration, and was not able to make it to the winning title. Kunal says he has one more goal, he wants to go to Harvard for medical or business, and wishes for his parents to be there to see him graduate. Harry Potter is creating his own amusement park. Hogwarts is going to become a theme park in Orlando.
