Coping with Death & Grief All humans and animals die. For some people, talking or thinking about death is scary. Marge Heegaard tells stories about young people’s experiences with death. She explains basic facts about death and discusses the different stages of grief. Heegaard gives suggestions for letting out feelings of sadness and anger. This book offers help and support for anyone who has had to deal with the death of someone close. I think that if someone close to you has past, this book might help you.
Chicken soup for the pet lovers soul Socks A six or seven year old kid had a little mutt puppy named socks. He got real close to the dog. One day he turned up missing and the guy kept crying about it. Over the years he got over it. Then one day his son had also lost a dog. Then the pain came back to him. He was desperate to find the dog because he was seeing himself all over again. After many hours of running and screaming for the dog he found him. He remembered socks and felt like he had also found him and that he was home again. An interesting thing about this is that the father saw himself in the kids eyes and felt like he was looking for socks. And when he found his sons dog and when he found it he felt like he had found socks.
The Golden Gate Bridge is located in San Francisco. It was built in 1937 and it measures 4,200 feet. An average walker takes half an hour to cross it. The bridge is San Francisco’s symbol. People come to San Francisco to see the Golden Gate Bridge. Sonoma and Napa produce California’s finest wines. The 29,000 acres of grape vines for making wine is one of the most valuable things the state of California has. In 1913 the temperature in the Death Valley reached to 134 Fahrenheit. It is the hottest temperature ever recorded ever in the United States. I think that California is the best state in the United States. There is a lot of things to do here. It really amazed me that it got to 134 Fahrenheit in the death valley.
Book title: Chicken Soup for the Women's Soul Title: The White Gardenia The story I read to day was about a young girl who always received a beautiful gardenia flower in front of her door. She never knew who sent it to her since there was no message or some short of florist card. She wondered had it been from a secret a admirer or maybe from one of the neighbors. Her mother would tell her maybe its from someone that you’ve helped out and they wanted to thank you. She was a normal girl. Very nice and polite, her mother had raised her good. Her mom was the kind who always had their children doing creative things. They all seemed a happy family. But one day her father suffered from a heart attack, and past away a day after she went looking for a prom dress. After that she feel so depressed and sad and angry because her dad had left in the most important moments of her life. She no longer cared for anything and lost her interest in many things. Prom was no longer anything for her, and her plans to move out for a better college were no longer in mind. But as she came home one day she found that dress in her living room. Her mother hadn’t forgotten about the prom. Although she did not really brag about her new dress her mother seemed to care. She had a great heart for her children. Years past and that young girl became a young women. She married at the age of 22, 10 days after her marriage her mother past away and no longer were there white gardenias at her door. One thing that I liked about this story was, the mother’s attitude towards her kids, she was very supportive. Another thing I also enjoyed was that she never let her daughter know that she was the one who would deliver the white gardenia. Family is very important and should come before anything, its very special for someone to receive a flower or to deliver a flower for those who you care about.
♥ Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul III ♥ Self Discovery; “Automobile Ambivalence” ♥ This morning I read a short story on a young high school boy and his first car. When he bought his first car he was afflicted with an apparently unique condition- automobile ambivalence. He admits it was not his dream car, but he had worked hard for it. It was his own classic clunker car. It didn’t matter what his car looked like, all that mattered was that he was longer chaperoned and he was free to pick up his friends. After having his car for a couple of years, he recalled feeling a little sentimental when he had approached an important milestone- one hundred thousand miles. He wanted to do something really special, so he went to the drive-in. Just a teenager and his car. He’s had a few cars since and his automobile ambivalence remains. But you only have one first car and although it’s no longer intact, his memories are. ♥ Life consists not in holding good cards but in playing those you hold well This quote plays along well with the story because the boy didn’t think too much about having the best looking car, he was grateful for what he had. He treated his car as if was a top notch car. =)
Title: Wild Animals Today I read about different kinds of antelopes. The first one I read about is called Oryx/gemsbok, this antelopes common in Africa and it never sheds its horns. The next one I read about is called the scimitar-horned Oryx, it is believed to be extinct in the wild. The last kind of antelope I read about is called the blackbuck, each blackbuck herd has one male leader. Females are very nervous and always alert the herd to danger, mostly found in S. Asia. One interesting fact I learned was that both sexes of antelopes have horns.
Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul "First Kiss- First Lesson"
This short story is about a girl who is having trouble at home with her mother. They disagree about who Jennifer can hang out with. I guess she is like the average teenager, wanting to go to parties and hang out with boys, and if the answers no, you go anyways. Well Jennifer finds a guy who she is really interested in and he pretends hes the sweetest guy ever after a party. But later on at another party she goes to, she sees him with a younger girl going into a room. Jennifer tried to make him appologise but all he did was make up excuses and beating his way around the bush. Jennifer finally realized why her mother over reacts . This story was okay, it sort of didnt really touch me because it sounded a little fake, but at the same time it is true. Growing up is hard for the parents. But teenagers should also know that growing up doesnt necessarly mean GROWN UP.
Chicken Soup for the Soul "If You Don't Ask,You Don't Get-But If You Do,You Do"
This story is about a husband and a wife who share their story to get what they want. The story they share doesn't come out in this book, but they got what they what they wanted.First of all they have a program called "Little Acorns" to teach children how to say no to drugs, sexual promiscuity, and other self-destructive behavior.Well they receive a brochure for a educational conference in San Diego,Ca,but they have problems getting there because they live in Miami,Florida. So they call the president for the conference and share their story with him and they asked him if he could give them two complimentary admissions to the conference and he said yes.Done with that they needed airplane tickets so they call the airport and talk directly with the president,Steve Quinto and they share their story with him and he decides to donate them two roundtrips tickets from Miami to San Diego. Then they needed a hotel and so they got a connection to the man that controls all the Holiday Inns in California. So they talk with him share their story and ask him if he could help them with the lodging for the three days and he says yes,but the hotel is in downtown San Diego and it's 35-mile drive to where the conference is at.Finally, they call National Car Rental, told their story and they gave them for the trip a new olds 88.At the end they made the trip to San Diego and went to the conference.
I think this story is weird because they never share the story in this book. Also by asking and sharing their story they got what they wanted which is pretty cool.
One fact is that if you ask for something you want you have a good chance at getting that by asking instead of keeping quiet and if you don't get what you want even by asking at least you made an effort to get what you wanted.
