Forever Odd by Dean Koontz
Today I read a short part of this book and it was kind of crazy.Well, there is this guy named Odd and he can see dead people.Odd is really trying to live a normal life, but dead people come and see him all the time.He doesn't really mind seeing dead peole because they come to see him so he could help them. The dead people that see him, see him because they want his help and usually they want his help because they have been killed or something. In this story one of Odd's friends has been killed and Odd is seeing his dead friend, but he can't figure out what his friend is trying to tell him.He could see dead people, but he can't talk to them.Odd doesn't really understand his special ability and I think he doesn't ants to understand it because it may cost his life. Now Odd is facing a really hard challenge because the killer has gotten away and his friend can't talk to him.
I think this book is weird. It's weird because Odd can see dead people. If I saw dead people I don't know how I would take or if would be as nice as Odd to help them out.
"People don't live forever so live everyday as if it was your last day on the surface of the earth."
"Race" by Bart Scheinder
a book of short stories
Gerald Early is trying to elaborate on his experiences as a kid. He talks about one day when he went back to his old neighborhood. During that day, he visited the few noted streets in his old area and was surprised. He described a shabby, old, broken down town, with trash filled empty lots. He gave a description of the old baseball field he used to play at. It was overgrown with weeds that shot out like small trees with surrounding litter. He remenised about Alex Haley, a grand story teller and mythmaker. He also destinctly described an overweight boy, named Fatman, with a gimp leg. Back then ,in his mind, Fatman was the best storyteller ever.
I think this is a good entry by this author. He goes back to a rememberable time at that same spot he is standing at. I also like how the author vividly describes the characters in the situation.
I liked the fact that when the characters were kids, they stayed as a group to play the sport they liked.
- Chicken soup for the soul
- If I had my life to live over
This story is based on an interview with an elderly. What I like about this story is that the person is the opposite of me. The women interviewed was Nadine Stair she was 85 years old. I say that she is the opposite of me because she says that she would make more mistakes next time. I don’t think I would do that because I have done enough mistakes that’s why im here. She also says that she would take things less seriously. This made me realize that I don’t take anything that serious. I just let my life pass by.
- This story got me thinking about my life. It made realize the things I have done wrong or at least remember them.
- One interesting thing about this story is that there are some people that are like her.
Monster
The part im reading right now is when Steve is on trial. His attorney is trying her best to keep Steve out of as much trouble as he can. The story of the robbery and murder is explained. Steve is not the only one who was part of it, there was also a young man by the name of James King. O'Brien, Steves attorney is trying her best to convince that Steve is innocent. While everything is going on, Steve proceeds to write his story about his trial. The Districts Attorney is explaining the incident and calling Steve a murderer and a Monster. The word monster hits Steve in a sensitive spot. He is no longer categorized as a human, he is a monster. Steve writes monster over and over again on the paper. His attorney scratches out all the monsters. She tells Steve that he needs to believe in himself to convince the jury that he is innocent. I can relate to this situation because when i was sitting in front of the judge, the judge was being hard on me and my mother. He was saying things like should stay in Juvenile Hall. How i look like i have no feelings toward what i did. I did feel bad but i was so caught up in the moment of being in front of the judge that all i could do was listen to everything that was being said and everything was going so fast. I had to do good in Juvenile Hall to prove that i had learned my lesson and not having fun in there.
* Better Nutrition
This shopping magazine helps you deal with natural living. Hot cocoa is now being looked at as a vitamin. Two new studies found that cocoa offers important protection against common diseases. Cocoa can help reduce the risk of cancer, diabetes. Stroke and heart failure is less than 10 percent in the Kuna people in Panama, who drink up to 40 cups of rich cocoa weekly. Breads and pastries and pastas don’t have to end up on your hips. A dietary supplement that stops starch calories from being digested can make weight loss more realistic and sustainable. There are plenty of benefits when using sage. It can help with sore throats, studies say people have sage in their cabinet. This magazine would help someone with nutrition facts.
In the book Great Mysteries of the Past in an article entitled Berried in and unmarked grave I read about the mysterious death of Mozart who was a great composer of his time. Among the many questions asked there were two that the book asked was he or wasn’t he poisoned? In the poisoned theory there were several people who hated Mozart. Including Salieri who was also a great composer that was a rival of Mozart. Another theory was that Mozart was poisoned by a Masonic Lodge brother whose wife Mozart supposedly had a child with. Another theory was based on one of the plays of Mozart that in the play he had revealed secrets of the Freemasons so they wanted him dead. And the last evidence presented in Mozart’s death was medical evidence that he was not poisoned but instead suffered from kidney failure that led to delusions of him thinking there were people set against him.
I learned how one thought could circle around and cause turmoil to so many people. And how that one thought could still lead people to question to this day.
I fond it interesting that Mozart’s death was shrouded in so much confusion. Mozart had many enemy’s that wanted him removed a great mind with great adversaries in high places.

The story talks about a boy named Stanley Yelnats. Stanley's family has a history of having back luck. The reason why his family has bad luck is because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. A long time ago his great great grandfather promised a one legged gypsy that if he was able to borrow her pig to find love he will return the pig but he never did. After the years the Yelnats family had continuous bad luck, Stanley ended up going to Camp Green Lake. The reason why Stanley went to Camp Green Lake was because he was accused of committing a crime but in reality he was innocent just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The camp that Stanley was going to was not a regular camp, it was a camp for bad kids. Stanley thought the camp would have had a lake, trees, and also thought it would have been fun. When Stanley got to the camp he saw nothing but miles and miles of dirt. At Camp Green Lake the kids usually makes one hole a day, and they say a hole a day will make a kid do good.I don’t think it was right for Stanley to go to camp just because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.I also don’t think it is fair for the family of one person to pay the consequences for that person’s mistakes.A negative can turn into a positive if you really think about it.“ if you get bitten by a yellow-spotted lizard, you might as well go into the shake of the oak trees and lie in the hammock. There is nothing anyone can do to you anymore “.
Today I continue to read the book by James Patterson When the Wind Blows. In the couple of chapters I read, Kit is snooping around Frans home. He suspects she might be a suspect. The main suspect. He thinks she is the murderer. He gets an unexpected visual. He sees Fran naked and he approves. In the other chapter I read, chapter 8, its unusual because a women has a healthy baby but all of a sudden the baby dies. I think it seems pretty suspicious. Why would a healthy new born baby die. I also think this mystery invoves Max. The fact that Fran and Kit both have a physical attraction towards each other, I think they’re going to hook up.
Rome-
in this book I read about Rome and how it has changed. They were very important builders especially of roads. In Rome the families lived in buildings that they had their own shop at the bottom of the buildings. They lived in 5 story buildings they were usually all in one room. In ancient Rome peoples houses were made out of wood. People were afraid of fire so they did not cook in their houses. They would go to restaurants and wood take food home. Rich Romans actually lived in houses. The front door opened into a large open space. The open space would also open to the pool. The rich Romans had very few furniture. The people that lived in the country were very hard workers. They worked all day in the field and almost never went home. The most important crops were olives and grapes. The farmers also raised pigs and sheep. Today many farms in the country are small. Back then they were big. In ancient paintings it shows how hen looked. Many men wore long shirts called tunics. They also wore their hair short and some of them grew beard. In public events there wore robe like garments called togas on top of their tunics. Women were fancy hairstyles. They sometimes piled their hair high on their heads. So far that is all I have read about in this book. What I find most interesting is that fashion was very important to Roman people. I like that I know that some of the new fashion is still inspired by Roman people. I like reading this book I find it very interesting.
Book title: Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul
Title: A long walk home
Today I read a story on learning, about a relationship between a father and son. The father in this story seems to try his hardest to be a good dad like every other. But as he tries to set a good example, he cannot manage to change him and his son’s relationship. He tries and finds solutions to come up with so that his own son can become more up front with him. And not have to lie about anything he’s done. As one day the father asked his son Jason to do him a favor and drive him 13 miles away to a village called Mijas. And then after wards of he could do him the favor and take the car to a garage drop it off there. And go back to Mijas to pick up his father. So Jason did as his father said, and he thought well since he was going to be waiting for a while, he would go to watch movies in a nearby theatre. Once he was in the movies, he got so much into it that he had lost track of time. And once he looked at his watch, he was already 2 hours late. So he hurries back to the village and apologized to his father for the inconvience. He had told his father that the reason why he was late was because, the place where he had left the car at said that there were some problems with the car. His father looked at him with a weird look, and said “ you don’t have to lie to me son, as soon as I was here waiting I had decided to call the garage to see if the car was still there, and they had told me that it was still there, but you had not yet gone to pick it up." so then Jason again apologized and spoke the truth abut the movies, after his dad was very disappointed. But Jason told his father not to be mad at him. But then his father explained to his son that he wasn’t angry at him but at himself, for not being a good father and that it was his fault that his son would always lie to him. Then he said that he was going to walk all the way home. Jason felt so bad, that what he had done made his father feel so bad. He followed his father all the way home, apologizing t he whole way home going 5 mph. after that day, never again did Jason lie to his father. One thing I liked was that in this story the father was a great person, because never did he blame his son for the actions he would commit. One thing learned about this story was that, its not a good idea to blame kids for the things they do, because they do learn from their parents, so it’s not fully their fault.
Reflection-5/14/07
Today, I have acted up, and once again have gotten in trouble. I am being sent home because my actions within the classroom, and in front of my classmates. I have disrespected my teachers and have disrupted my classmates. But who is to blame?.......Me, Myself, and I. Because only I can control the way I think, the way I feel, and what I choose to do. I choose to do what I need to do to succeed……
Title: East Asia
Section: Liquid Gold
In this story, in east Asia scientist had discovered oil in the desert china estimate. They had discovered that is was about seventy-four billion of barrels of oil under the ground. The people in east Asia had more then three hundred and sixty wells drilled. In east Asia instead of it being real gold, it still was gold but it was just liquid king of gold. I learned that the east of Asia was very rich and famous with the pounds of liquid gold underneath the grounds. I also learned that they didn’t have the regular type of gold that we usually would have, and that their liquid of oil was three times the oil reserve of the United States. I like the fact that east Asia had lots of things going on out their and their weather temperatures are very unique. I also liked that their were lots of things discovered out their, and everything they discovered was very fascinating.
Section title: The 5 secrets of teen success
Picture description: there is no picture but I imagine two people fighting for something that they both want.
Summary: This book is about how many teens can accept for who they are. They sometimes feel that they are better than others and that they more than others. But they have ways to make themselves feel better, like when they dress up for themselves or when they have positive attitude. It also talks about how young people could get along with each other and specially with their family members. What I think is that many of the young people have problems getting along with their brothers and sister because they just cant make things work out between them. I think I know why? and is because they could be jealous to what they have, or because one of them gets more love than the other one. I have experience this situation with my younger brother and sister they always be hating on me because since I am the oldest sometimes they have to listen to what I said so they wish that they could be older so that they could boss me around.
Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul
This morning I read a short story called, “Let Sleeping Dogs Lie.” It was about a dog that would appear at his neighbor’s house everyday in the afternoon for an hour nap. The neighbor could tell the dog had a home by looking at his collar and well-fed belly. Every afternoon the neighbor would come home on his lunch break and find the dog outside his door. As soon as he would open the door, the dog followed him inside. The dog made his way to the hallway and took a nap for about an hour, then sit by the door until he let him out. This continued for several weeks. Curiously, the neighbor decided to pin a note to the collar saying, “ Every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.” The next day the dog returned with a different note on his collar, “He lives in a home with ten children- he’s trying to catch up on his sleep.”
This story doesn’t really provide any facts, but my favorite part had to be when the owner & the neighbor put notes on the collar.
