Book Name: The Woman Who Escaped From Shame
I read about a person who once lived In Chicago but came to San Diego and joined the Navy. The person tells how when they first came into San Diego, things were difficult. But once they get used to getting settled in other town, he makes new friends. Whom sometimes doesn’t really know about their past. As he tries to know more about her Navy trooper Morales she finds out something mysterious. Two things I liked about the book is that it is very interesting, and it catches my eye. Although I still not sure of the main character of this story is a boy or girl.

Today I read When the Wind Blows. It is written by James Patterson. I read chapter 26 and in this chapter Fran and Max come across each other once again. They have a brief encounter and max just stares. Fran wants to talk to her and she is breathless. It really is a girl with wings. Fran is holding a trap in her hands so max is scared. I guess Max thinks it’s a trap for her so she starts to leave. I feel as though Max should let Fran in her life. Fran could help her and max wont be so lonely. Maybe even help her find Mathew as well. The interesting fact in this chapter is that Max is a beautiful little girl.

"Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul"

This short story is titled "Friends," by Karen Del Tufo. The author had lost a child 21 years ago during birth. After that, her husband decided to get a dog, Sam, an eight-week-old schnauzer, actually. Some time after that they relocated from New York to New Jersey. Soon after they got there, a neighbor offered them a cat soon to be named Lightning. Karen and her husband received the cat with appreciation and introduced it to their dog. At first they were hesitant to bond with each other, but soon came inseparable. Years later, out of no where, Sam, started having convulsions and was diagnosed with a weak heart. They had no choice to do but put him down. The cat was very disappointed and showed it with misery. I like this short story because it tells you that not everything lasts forever. That’s just life.

*The Great Migration
Not every migrant found work in factories. Many business people followed the thousands of migrants north. One of the wealthiest women in New York was Mary Harris. She made her fortune selling pigs feet on the streets of Harlem out of a baby carriage. City life was not just about work. Voting was very important to them. In some elections they voted in larger numbers than white voters. The migrants had not been able to vote in the South. The most important institution in the African American community was the church. Church leaders helped migrants find jobs and housing. In the 1920s most Americans had jobs and money. Most African Americans had been able to save little money to help themselves in times of emergency. I thought it was wild how they used every penny for their daily needs.

Chicken Noodle soup for the Soul.
Title: On Courage
This story is about a woman telling her experience on how she learned courage from a little boy. She use to volunteer at a hospital were she met a little girl named Liza who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. And her only chance of recovery was to get a blood transfer from her 5 year old brother who had miraculously survived the same disease and developed all the antibodies he needed to combat the illness. They ask him if he was willing to do the transfusion and he wasn’t sure at first but then he said ”Yes, ill do it if it will save Liza.” As the transfusion progressed and seeing the color return to her cheek. The little boy looked up to the doctor and asked “will I start to die right away?” But the boy did not understand that the weren’t giving her all his blood. So that should lots of courage to the woman so yes she did know courage.
I think that was courageous of the little boy cause even though he thought he was going to die he still gave the blood to save his sister. And that right there shows lots of courage.

-Chicken soup for the teenage soul
-She didn’t give up on me
-Todays story that I read was about a girl that was on foster care. She had been on foster care since she was 2 years old. Her mom couldn’t maintain her and her five sisters. Plus she had never met her father. She felt lonely and confused. She did not know how to tell people that she was hurt. Her only way to let people know was by throwing tantrums. Again and again her foster family returned her to the adoption agency. She thought she was the most unlovable girl in the world. Then she met kate McCann. She was seven by the time and living with her fourth foster family. Kate was a single woman and wanted to adopt a child. Sharon didn’t think that anyone wanted to live with her the rest of their lives. Kate took sharon to a pumpkin farm, they had a lot of fun. A few days later a social worker came to the house and said that kate wanted to adopt sharon. Sharon moved in with kate soon. Sharon thought that after she knew her well she would return her. But after a while and a whole lot of tantrums she didn’t then sharon realized that she did love her. Now shes sixteen and has a 3.4 GPA. She hopes to be a vetinarian when she grows up.
This story is really touching. I think that its one of the best stories that I have read.
One interesting thing that I learned was that a family never gives up on you no matter what.

Today I read about the city of Angkor. The ruins of Angkor cover more than 150 square miles {400 square kilometers} in northwestern Cambodia. There is a lot of dense forest around it so some parts cant be seen. However since 1860 scientists have uncovered the remains of more than 100 temple, or structures built for religious purpose. These temples were built during the ancient Khmer kingdom. About hundreds of years ago, the city of Angkor was the capital of the great Khmer kingdom. Angkor's sculptures and buildings are being ruined by the weather. I the 1990s people from around the world stepped in to help protect the city's remains.
I think the city has a great amount of potential. I think there is a lot of things going on back in the day. Tier was very good structure the way it was built, I think it is amazing.
I learned that the city of Angkor was the capital of the great Khmer kingdom once.

Forever Odd by Dean Koontz
Chapter 8

This chapter was alright. Nothing really happened. Odd was sitting on a tree and he saw Elvis Presley in an army uniform. Sometimes Odd and Elvis sit down and just listen to Elvis's music. Also when Elvis is really sad he weeps. Right now he isn't weeping he's just sitting down with Odd. Then all of a sudden a white van pulls up and Odd feels that the man driving the van is the one who tasered him. So Odd runs torwards the van and the man driving doesn't see him coming and so Odd keeps on going, but the van gains ground because it's faster and Odd loses ground.

Today's chapter was kind of cool. Hopefully Odd catches the guy who tasered him. Also hopefully if he gets lucky he finds Danny.

Nothing in this life is easy.

Monday Blog Title: Rome Section: Clothes and Hair in this story selection, I read that the Ancient Romans statues and other works of art show us how the Romans dressed and looked long ago. The men usually had short hair, and sometimes they wore beards, they didn’t shave at home, they went to the barber shop instead. Ancient Rome men would wear long shirts called tunics, they would wear them at public events, and the also wore robelike garments called togas on the top of their tunics. The women had wore fancy hairstyles, and they piled their hair high on top of their heads. Some of them also liked to dye their hair. Women wore short-sleeved dresses belted at the waist. When they would wear the dress they would often wear shawls, it would be blue and yellow, those were the popular colors for the women, and they usually made their clothes for their families. I learned that the Romans did everything they could for their families and that they had different ways of celebrating. I also learned that they had the men dressed up in similar ways they did. I liked the fact that they wore their clothes unusual then other cultures did back then, I also like the fact that they had public events and had to dress up for them.

+ This morning I read a short story in the book, “Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul.” The story was titled, “Life Just Isn’t,” and it was about a teenage girl in her junior year in high school. Her name is Katie and she was looking forward to her Junior Retreat. The Junior Retreat was an overnight three-day camp for the junior girls to talk about each others lives, problems, concerns, and worries about school, friends, guys, or whatever. Katie came home from the retreat feeling refreshed, knowing that she was not alone. Every girl went through almost the same struggles. But a couple days after the coming home, she started to think that the retreat was just a temporary stress relief… until she found a letter her camp leader wrote her. It said that life wasn’t about how you dress or who you’re dating. It was about who you love and who you hurt. Life’s about trust, happiness, and compassion. It’s about sticking up for your friends and replacing inner hate with love. Life’s about avoiding jealousy, overcoming ignorance, and building confidence. It’s about what you say and what you mean. Life’s about seeing people for who they are and not what they have. Most importantly, life is about choosing to use your life to touch someone else’s in a way that could never have been achieved otherwise.
+ It’s amazing how out of all the short stories in the book, I chose this story. This short story made me feel a lot better this morning and helped me realize that getting mad is just what someone wants me do. Karma has it’s way and I will not lower my self esteem over some childish acts.
