Who Won?
Chicken Soup for the Women’s Soul
In 1968 during the Special Olympics track and field meet, Kim Peek showed a beautiful act of kindness. Kim Peek a brain-damaged, severely handicapped boy was racing the 50-yard dash. He was racing against 2 other athletes with cerebral palsy, they both were in wheelchairs; Kim was a lone runner. The race started and Kim moved quickly ahead of the other two. 20 yards ahead, then 10 yards from the finish line, he turned around to see how the other 2 were doing. The girls wheelchair was turned around and she was stuck against the wall. The boy was moving backwards in his chair and pushing himself with his feet. Kim went back and pushed the girl over the finish line and the boy won the rest of the race backwards and the girl came in 2nd and Kim lost. Or did he really, don’t think so the crowd gave Kim a standing ovation.
Well its pretty clear who won the race but I think Kim should of finished the race before he went back for the other 2. But I’m glad the crowd saw who really won.

Today I read about caring of eggs. The female will get plump while she develops her eggs. Each reptile has different time hatchings. It also depends on the conditions and the species. Sometimes 30 or more in a 100 days. Areas that can supply the necessary concealment warmth, and humidity seem to be the main requirements. Most lizards excavate burrows in soft soil in which to lay their eggs. others lay them under rocks and logs, others under litter and so on.

I think that they have a very weird way of getting pregnant. They have a rough life to live, have 30 or more reptiles. Also their husbands don’t stay with the girl.
I learned that they have 30 or more kids in a hundred days.

Book title: Chicken Soup for the Soul
Title: I Know You, You’re Just Like Me!
Today’s story I read about was based on love in our society. A man by the name of Stan Dale who teaches a class on love and relationships called Sex, Love, and Intimacy. He decided to take about 30 people to the Soviet Union for two weeks. To learn about others what those people were like. As the went to a park in an industrial city in, Kharkov. They met a old Russian veteran from World War 2. as he spoke to him in Russian language say to the old man, “friendship and peace.” the old man at first looked at him a bit weird but then, they both began to talk without even understanding each other, but able to understand where each one comes from. They talked and hugged and cried. After that day they met so many new people other Russians, who showed so much love to them. They were so pleased to have so many people come in and enjoy spending time with them. They would be invited to dinners where there were drinks, foods, and music, and a room full of conversation. After those two weeks once it was time to go back home, they were so attached to one another that they cried in their goodbyes. For even though they did not look alike to them they were all family, no matter who you are or where you come from. One thing liked about this story was that the class set a good example on bringing our society closer together. Another thing was that they didn’t care if it wasn’t someone of their race they accept each individual for who they were. What I learned after reading this passage was that if everyone unites and doesn’t judge each person because of their race our world would be so much more united and better for everyone, full of happiness, friendship, and love.

"Race" by Bart Schneider
A book of short stories

I finished reading Susan Straight’s short story. In the part I read, Susan and her family fed over a hundred people after Alberta’s funeral. They were feeding people in their small living room, driveway, and street. After a few hours, Susan was chasing them out so she can clean. She was three months pregnant but cleaned the whole kitchen.
Within the month, Alberta’s husband’s oldest sister died and they had another funeral. Susan was now angrier than she’d been in a long time. She was quiet about it. When I finished this book, I was surprised to find out that Susan was holding in all the tears the whole time. She finally let it all out when she was seven months pregnant.
I liked this short story because it describes the pain the family was going through and what it took to overcome it all. I learned that if you hold feelings in for a long time, you won’t feel the same about that subject of life for that period of time.

-Chicken soup for the teenage soul
-Dead at 17
-Today's story is about is about a guy who is 17 years old I think his name is John. The story is written as if he himself told the story. He starts by explaining that when he first got there he felt very much alone. He was overwhelmed by grief, he expected to find sympathy. He saw only thousands of bodies that were as badly mangled as his. He was given a number and placed in a category. The category was called traffic fatalities. He starts saying that the day he died was an ordinary school day. He wishes that he had taken the bus but he was too cool to take it. He had asked his mom to let him borrow the car special favor he said. After school he was so excited he was enjoying his freedom and having fun. All he remembers is passing an old lady who was going awfully slow. He heard a crash and felt a terrific jolt. Glass and steel flew everywhere, his whole body felt like it was turning inside out. When he woke up he saw an officer and a doctor. They were putting a blanket over his body and was telling them to stop but they were not hearing him. They put him in a drawer and closed it. After a while it opened and he saw his mom and dad. They were crying horribly and the dad told them that it was their son. He says that the funeral was very weird. All his relatives and his friends were crying and walked up to the casket and touched him. He was asking god to give him one more chance that he would be the best driver in the world.
-this story is pretty sad because it makes me wonder if that is how it feels after you die.
One interesting thing that I learned is that I should be careful because I always drive really crazy. I should value my life more because we only get to live once.

♥This morning I read a short story in Chicken Soup for the Soul, titled “True Love.” It was about a man by the name of Moses Mendelssohn. He was the grandfather of a well known German composer. But he was far from being as handsome. He had a hunchback along with his short stature. One day he visited a merchant in Hamburg who had a lovely daughter named Frumtje. Moses fell hopelessly in love with her at first sight. But she was repulsed by his misshapen appearance. When it was time for him to leave he decided to try to talk to her. But she would not look at him when he tried. He finally decided to ask her one last question. “Do you believe marriages were made in heaven?” And she answered yes. He told her how the Lord pointed to a humpbacked woman and he begged for his wife to be beautiful and him to have the humpback. Then Frumtje looked into his eyes and was stirred by some deep memory. She reached out and gave Moses her hand and later became his devoted wife.
♥I enjoyed reading this story because it was a love story that wasn't based on physical appearances but actual love. <3

Chicken Soup For The Teenage Soul.
"Gold-Medal Winner"

Rick Metzger was an Olympian Gold-Medal winner. He also became a spokes person at schools influencing kids not to give up on their goals. After giving his speech at one particular school, the principal asked him to pay a visit to one special child who was unable to make it to the assembly. That child's name was Matthew. He was born with muscular dystrophy but he wanted to join the olympics and get medals. They talked for a couple of hours and Rick wanted to give Matthew his first ever won Gold-Medal. But Matthew gave it back to Rick and told him that one day he will win his own and show him. Later on Rick gets a letter from Matthews parents telling him that Matthew had passed away. They also sent him a letter that Matthew had written him just a few days before he passed away. Matthew sent him a thank you letter and told him how hard it was beginning to get to breath. He also talked about how he knew he wouldnt be able to lift weights with Rick. But he thanked him for loving him and told him that he's not a quitter and inside he is a winner. God knows it. I think this story was a great story to be told. Its amazing how one little boy can be so inspired and not let the illness that he has stop him from wanting to accomplish his dreams.

Title: Book Of Pregnancy & Baby Care

8 Sentence Summary:
After you give birth to your baby there will be a lot of examinations in the first week to see if the baby is healthy. The doctor generally measures the head, listens to the heart and lungs, checks if the abdominal organs are the right size, genitals are checks, moves the baby’s limbs back and forth, checks hips for dislocation, and finally runs his/her thumb down the baby’s back to make sure that the vertebrae is in place along the spine. After birth the mother goes through after pains and sometimes urinates often in the first few days so that the body eliminates the extra fluid that was gained in pregnancy. You also may be vaginal bleeding for 2 to 6 weeks and can stop quicker if you are breastfeeding. During the first few weeks of the baby being alive the baby will sleep most of the time and will only wake up to be changed or fed. When the baby is finally 6 weeks old you would need to take him/her for a mandatory check up. If the baby was born prematurely than it would be very difficult to tend to the baby’s needs. The check up is to check the baby’s limbs and muscle tone, control of head, grasp reflex, head circumference, heartbeat, internal organs, hip check, and also check weight.

3 Sentence Thought Reflection:
I didn’t know that during the first week of the baby being born the baby has to go through a lot of tests.I thought that it was very interesting that you need to hold the baby close to you because her/his body is so loose.
A baby normally needs to eat 3-4 times a day with a total of 1-2 hrs each time.

Interesting Fact:
I thought that it was very interesting that if you breastfeed that the baby will be much smarter than it would be if you gave the baby formula.

Section Title: The challenge of toddlers
Summary: This book was about how to teach toddlers to learn and advanced their mind. One of the things that this book recommend was to talk to the new born even though they don’t know or understand but it helps them to start hearing their moms voice. Almost all the people from all nation remember when they were little, but once they are older they sometimes forget what they have done for the day. I think it’s a good memory to remember when you were a baby and how we learn threw out the years. It feels like if it was yesterday that I was born time goes so fast that each day of my life there's something new going on in my life. I just thank my mom for raising me and for trying to give the best she can. This book also talked about how babies are born but just to be little angels for a few years.

Title: Very Scary
In this short story, I read about a pumpkin that was large and bright. It was so bright that it tracked a owl, cat, witch, crickets, and children. The children had went to the pumpkin and started to carve a face on it and after they carved a face on it they put an flashlight in it. Then the pumpkin had became scary and the pumpkin said, “Boo”!, and everyone scattered away, and as they ran the pumpkin began to laugh and stated that he is very scary. I liked the fact how at first the pumpkin didn’t speak, and it was nice. I also like the fact that it was on an Halloween night and so that made the story even better. I learned that it doesn’t take a lot of things to make something into being scary. I also learned that its always good to have something to be enjoyed by. I really like also the fact in the story that when the children had came the witch hide, because she didn't want them to notice her that she was there.

Chicken Soup for the teenage soul:
In this chapter of the book I read a story called “First Love”. This story was about two young children that fell in love. He was 4 years older than him but somehow they got along just fine. They were good friends. As the boy got older his parents bought him a car. He would take her out. Not on dates just to hang out. They got older and as she grew he asked her out. She said yes and they were happy together. They grew up and he moved away. They still talked even though they were not going out. When she was 19 he was about to get married. He would always tell her that no matter who he was with he would always be there for her. She went to his wedding. She realized that she was happy for him and jealous at the same time. She couldn’t understand why he was in love with her and she was jealous that he could love someone else. Then she realized that she shouldn’t have those feelings. Years after they had stopped talking. One day her dad died. She felt so sad and alone. When she was at her dads funeral she felt a hand on her shoulder. It was her first love. Then she realized that he was being honest, he would always be there for him. I think that this story is so sweet. I think it proves that if a love relationship doesn’t work out there is no reason why they cant be friends.
