Chicken Soup for the Soul. "The Magic Of Believing"
A little boy who hadn't even turned 8 years old yet set himself some dreams to play baseball. His mother tells him that if he were to actually play, he will never be able to run fast because he had an operation on his legs. The little boy told his mother that it wouldn't be necessary to run because he'll hit the ball so hard that it'll go right out side of the park. His hits will be so good that he wouldn't even have to run, he'll just walk through the park.
I thought this was the cutest thing to ever say at the youngest age. He set himself to be the best hitter. He knew that he would be able to hit good, even if he couldnt run. He believed that he would be able to play so good that he wouldn't ever have to run.
Chicken Soup for the Women’s Soul Title: A Tale of Two Cities This story is about a traveler that was about to enter a great city and he asked a women seated by the wayside, “What are the people like in the city?” The woman “how were the people where you came from?” “a terrible lot” The traveler responded. “Mean, untrustworthy, detestable in all respects.” “Ah,” said the woman, “you’ll find the same in the city ahead.” Then that traveler left and a 2nd traveler left the city and the woman ask “how were the people. The traveler said “they were fine people, honest, industrious, and generous to a fault. And the women responded “so you will find them in the city ahead.” I think that this story is trying to show us that everyone has a different perspective on things and cause one traveler thought the people to be mean and nasty before he even enter the city so he left but then another traveler came out of the city and said the people were nice and polite.
It couldn’t Hurt Today I read a poem called It couldn't hurt. This poem was basically about a mother who does random acts of kindness, to feel better about life. She shows her family that she cares and decides that by saying that it couldn't hurt. She invited a lady who had no car to eat, and she enjoyed her time. When her friend was sick at home, and made her a chicken soup. So hopefully she would feel a little better. She was a good person and thought about those other than her family. This women is a good role model because she treats others as she would like to be treated and how people should treat each other. I believe that this character in the story is a very positive women. And in order to be happy and successful in life, it’s always good to do random acts of kindness to others.
I read more out of the short story of Henry Louis Gates, Jr. In this part of the story, Henry agreed that he will stop telling everybody how to be black. He was looking at this like it was a very normal subject. I guess this story was based on discrimination. Henry acted like there was a rule that the blacks had to follow; some kind of code of conduct. But what he was doing was very prejudice because he didn’t know the people he was expecting higher standards from. I don’t really agree about this man’s point of view in the story because he looks at everyone and sees what they act not who they are. I think this man will have a turn around in life and see that how he thinks will be changed. I also like this book because Henry is writing to his daughters and enjoying doing it.
Today I read When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. Chapter 31and 32 . In this chapter Fran hears a terrible noise and she runs to go see what it is. It’s a fox stuck in a hunters trap. Luckily she is a good person and brought a syringe to help the poor fox. It’s a female and she is pretty beat up. Her leg is almost gnawed off and she fell down a ten foot slope which Fran falls herself on her butt. As she gets to the wounded female fox, she realizes she needs help and she cant do this alone. She goes to Kit Harrison’s house for assistance. He comes to the rescue without a shirt. He sees the fox and is sad and realizes why Fran hates hunters so much. He help her put the animal down and its fast asleep. Now they can help save it and Fran is a happy woman and so is Kit with that smile Fran gave him. I think that is so cute how Kit came and saved the day. He must really like Fran for what he does for her. Kit also realizes why Fran hates hunters so much. Its sad and cruel. The interesting fact in the chapter is how Fran really does love animals.
*Rome Rome was the center of a great civilization long ago. Laws and government were very important to its people. Ancient Romans were also great builders, especially of roads and waterways. The Roman Empire covered most of Europe. Rome was the most important city in the empire. More than a million people lived there. In ancient Rome, the Pantheon was a temple honoring Roman gods. In ancient Rome, the buildings were made of wood. People were afraid of fire and did not cook in their homes. People had to eat in restaurants or buy food to take home. Today, many people in Rome live in apartments. Cooks used herds and spices. Spices helped to hide the fact that many foods were not fresh. People could not refrigerate. The Colosseum was a huge theater in Rome. It is interesting that over 50,000 people could sit in it.
Today I read ‘The Gossiper’ from the book “Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul”. It was about a woman who repeated some gossip about a neighbor. The person the gossip was about was offended and hurt. The woman felt bad so she went to a wise old man to see what she could do. He told her to go to the marketplace, buy a chicken and have it killed. Then he told her to drop the feathers one by one on her way home. Then next day he told her to go get the feathers and bring them to him. She couldn’t find any of the feathers. He told her you can drop them but impossible to get them back. Just like gossiping, it’s easy to spread a rumor, but you can never entirely undo the wrong. I thought the story was a good lesson. I agree completely with the story.
Title: East Asia Today I read about saving Wayang Kulit. Supporters of wayang kulit are working to preserve the ancient art form. They want more schools to perform shadow puppet plays. Still, “it’s very rare that young people would like to learn wayang, because it takes a lot of patience,” says Mariah. The same can be said of the craft of puppet designing. Most of the puppet makers are at least 50 yrs old. Sugiri is trying to help save wayang kulit by teaching the tradition to five young craftsmen. “Wayang is our cultural heritage,” he says. I’m proud to help preserve it.
-Chicken soup for the teenage soul III -My fairy tale -todays story was a bout a girl named kathryn vacca. She had gotten a boyfriend who she thought was perfect. She says he was the stuff fairy tales are made of. She says he is charming, tall, and handsome. She says he was a prince by all conventional definitions. Their first kiss was perfect and from that moment on their relationship soared. They would go out to eat breakfast together and have snowball fights. Onsaturdays she would go see him play soccer and he never missed any of her softball games. She only had time for him and he only had time for her, they were without a doubt in love. But sometime during their nine month walk their relationship had lost its sparkle. Time spent together and time on the phone was just a routine and a custom. It was one cold june day when chris broke up with her, he said that he woke up in the morning and realized that he did not love her. She did not know what to do so she went to a familiar place, ashleys house. It has been a while since she hadnt been there but within an hour her three closest friends arrived. They spent time trying to analyze what had gone wrong. During her healing process she realized that she didn’t have a fairy tale boyfriend she had fairy tale girlfriends. It took a heart break to realize the special gift she had. -I think that this story is kind of true but after all the experiences that I had been through I don’t really trust any one I really prefer to just be alone -One thing that I learned from this story is that when you are in love you are blind to everything but that person and you don’t realize what is going on.
♥ This morning I read “Linda Goodman’s Love Signs.” I chose to read about my Astrological sign and my boyfriend’s sign. (I’m the Taurus & my boyfriend sign’s a Pisces.) The Pisces sign represents the powerful polarity of Piscean spiritual and human qualities, struggling for control. And in another sense, it represents the temptation to swim about effortlessly downstream. Taurus can be a great help to Pisces in obtaining experience in a practical way, through the reality of the tangible. Until they get to know each other a little bit better, the Taurus will see the Pisces as a foolish creature and the Pisces will think of the Taurus as dangerous. On matters of consequence, the typical Piscean has ideas very different from the average Taurus. They’re magnetically pulled together, in order to carry out the karmic balance of action and reaction, under the direction of the Higher Angels of themselves. Another thing we have in common is that we both like to avoid sticky situations. But the Taurus girl is often more patient and sure of her feelings unlike the Pisces man. ♥ I love learning more and more about astrology. I do not ever get bored when I’m reading about astrological signs, so my most interesting part would have to be the entire book.
Section title: Friends Summary: This section was about how friends aren't really friends when it comes to be death family problems or other that sometimes you need from a friend. In this situation it was a financial problem where the family didn’t had enough money to support their 3 children, they needed money so bad that the first thing they did was to ask their friends but none of them would help them out. So they had to move from a different country where it was more affordable for them. But for them it was something different in their life's because they didn’t know the place or anybody in the country, so they were still struggling not financially but since everything was new for them things weren't resolve. Sometimes I like to help people that ask for money in the streets but not to anyone because some of them used the money for drugs but I only help the people that really needed like people that have big families and cant give them food so I helped them out at least with $5.My grandma tells me that if I help other people god would double it when I might need it. And it also feels good when you help someone because your making a big change for them.
