Title: The White Gardenia
The story I read to day was about a young girl who always received a beautiful gardenia flower in front of her door. She never knew who sent it to her since there was no message or some short of florist card. She wondered had it been from a secret a admirer or maybe from one of the neighbors. Her mother would tell her maybe its from someone that you’ve helped out and they wanted to thank you. She was a normal girl. Very nice and polite, her mother had raised her good. Her mom was the kind who always had their children doing creative things. They all seemed a happy family. But one day her father suffered from a heart attack, and past away a day after she went looking for a prom dress. After that she feel so depressed and sad and angry because her dad had left in the most important moments of her life. She no longer cared for anything and lost her interest in many things. Prom was no longer anything for her, and her plans to move out for a better college were no longer in mind. But as she came home one day she found that dress in her living room. Her mother hadn’t forgotten about the prom. Although she did not really brag about her new dress her mother seemed to care. She had a great heart for her children. Years past and that young girl became a young women. She married at the age of 22, 10 days after her marriage her mother past away and no longer were there white gardenias at her door. One thing that I liked about this story was, the mother’s attitude towards her kids, she was very supportive. Another thing I also enjoyed was that she never let her daughter know that she was the one who would deliver the white gardenia. Family is very important and should come before anything, its very special for someone to receive a flower or to deliver a flower for those who you care about.
“Race” by Bart Schneider
A book of short stories
I continued reading the short story of Henry Louis Gates, Jr. When I started reading, it was focused on a letter Gates was writing to his daughters Maggie and Liza. He was describing that how when he was a kid, a lot of people talked to him when he was in Italy. He said that there was also a lot of people that wouldn’t even acknowledge him when they passed by. His dad told him not to talk to those people. His dad also told him not to cling to people just because you are afraid of them. Henry is talking about racism back in his day and how bad it was. Henry thought for most of his childhood that people betrayed his race. I agree on this book because I’m pretty sure things were hard back then and they still are a little bit just not in the open. I like this book because it has history we need to learn from.
Chicken Soup for the Women’s Soul
Title: What do you want to Be?
This story is about an experience with a mother and a daughter that the child taught a parent something in life. Five-year-old Alyssa waltzed in the room of her mother changing one the babies and ask “Mommy, what do you want to be when you grow up?” and she responded “I think I would like to be a mommy when I grow up.” And she said “You can’t be that your already one of those! What do you want to be?” “Okay, maybe ill be a pastor when I grow up.” “Mommy, No, you’re already one of those!” So she gave up on her mom and left the room but then her mother thought back to the question. And it touched her mother cause she thought that in her daughter’s eyes she could be anything, that her mom still had some growing to do.
This story explains a mother in her child’s eyes she is a hero to them what they want to be when they grow up… But this child think that her mother is still learning life and growing cause we don’t know everything even as an adult we still have many things to learn.
*Spices
Silk cloth is valued for its beauty and strength. Spices like mustard seeds are valued for their strong taste. Salt is valued for its flavor and for its ability to preserve food. Animal fur has always been valued for its warmth and how it looks. Many spices used to be found in the Molucca Islands of Indonesia. Warm, wet places like these Spice Islands are good for growing spices. Pepper grows wild in forests of India. Cinnamon comes from Sri Lanka. The spices of the world are available in local supermarkets. People use them to cook the dishes of many cultures. The Europeans traded goods such as pottery for spices. People used spices to flavor food and to make medicines and perfumes. Spices come in many shapes, colors, and flavors. I didn’t know that the fruit of the pepper plant produces different types of pepper.
-Chicken soup for the soul
-I think I can!
-Today’s story is pretty interesting. It was about the son of Marty Lyons the New york jets defensive end. His name is rocky Lyons, he was five years old when he was driving through rural alabama with his mom, kelly. He was asleep in the front seat of their pick up truck, with his feet resting on her lap. As his mom drove carefully she turned onto a narrow bridge. The truck fell into a pothole and she felt like it was going to turn over, so she tried to jerk it back to the road by pressing hard on the gas. But rockys foot got stuck between her and thwe steering wheel so she lost control. The truck flipped over and fell over a 20 foot ravine. At the end of the crash rocky woke up. He told her mom that he will help her get out. She told him to just let her go to sleep but he didn’t. Her face was torn up from her lips to her forehead. He managed to pull her out and said that he was going to go up to the road and stop a car for help. But she feared that they wont see him in the dark so little by little they went up the ravine. When they got to the road he saw her face and got scared. They manged to get to the hospital and she healed.
-I think this story is pretty interesting because the boy had a lot of courage and strength.
one interesting thing that I learned is that whether you think you can or think you cant you are right.
Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul III.
"Things will never be the same."
This story is about two girls who were bestfriends since the fourth grade. When freshman year of highschool comes up, they start hanging out with different people and Celine starts hanging out with people who do not want to be friends with Michelle. One day, a popular girl named Jaime wants to visit Celine and in the end, she tells Celine to call Michelle telling her that the boy Michelle has a crush on is going out with Jaime. Michelle was heartbroken and took it way more serious than Celine thought she would. So, Later on that night, Celine calls Michelle and says it was a lie. She apologizes and tells her how she realizes how her new friends weren't worth messing up the friendship she had with Michelle. Michelle said that it's not going to be easy forgiving her. For the next couple of weeks Celine goes out of her way writing many notes, sending pictures, and calling her everynight to Michelle to ask for her forgiveness. And one night Michelle is at Celines front door step saying she forgives her, and Celine is excited, wants Michelle to spend the night so they can talk about everything. But Michelle says no, she says she forgives her but it's never going to be the same. What Celine did to Michelle changed what they were, and changed their future. Michelle said, "I'll see you around" and walked away without even looking back. Celine and Michelle see each other every once in a while but they don't say much except for waves of hello's or just a nod. Celine says she will never let friends influence her to mess up true genuine friendships. She owes that to Michelle.
This story is so sad, i think that Celine messed up pretty badly and should atleast talk to Celine a little instead of completely leaving her like that.
Title: Book Of Pregnancy & Baby Care
8 Sentence Summary:
To make powdered formula in bottles you would need powdered formula, boiled water, and a bottle. When making a bottle out of powder, you need one scoop of water for every 2 oz. If the baby doesn’t eat all of the food that you prepared than you can store bottles by putting the nipples in upside down after you’ve shaken the formula. When you are feeding your baby solids you should try first with baby rice cereal, pureed carrot, applesauce, or mashed bananas. You should also try to feed your baby pasta, steamed broccoli, or finger foods. If for some reason you try to feed your baby food and he/she spits it out try dipping a finger inside the food than putting it in the baby’s mouth and see if he/she spits it out again, if he/she does than she might not like the food. At Eight months old the baby should start learning how to feed her/himself little by little. But in the beginning when feeding him/herself it will be messy but once the baby is 15 months everything will become cleaner.
3 Sentence Thought Reflection:
I realized that when the baby is already born that there are a lot of exciting moments when the baby does new things. I think that one of the most exciting things about a baby growing up is when the baby takes his/her first step. I also believe that it is not only a big challenge to take care of a baby but it could also be fun because a negative can be turned into a positive.
Interesting Fact:
An interesting fact that I read about was that a baby could be crying because of the mother’s mood.
This morning I read about the main character Stanley arriving at Camp Green Lake. He described the camp as very hot and dry. They only get two sets of clothes, one for working and one for relaxing. The campers have to dig one hole each day that is five feet wide and five feet deep. They also sleep in tents and have to eat breakfast at 4:30 in the morning. He describes a man in a cowboy hat, his name is Mr. Sir. He has a gun and he is really mean to Stanley.
+ This morning’s blog was on a short story titled, “My Declaration of Self-Esteem.” The short story was written in response to a fifteen year old girl’s question, “How can I prepare myself for a fulfilling life?” The answer was that one needs to understand and believe that there isn’t and won’t ever be anyone else just like oneself. There are people who may have the same body parts, but no one will add up to anyone else. Therefore, anything that comes from anyone is authentically theirs. Everyone owns everything about themselves- their body, including everything it does; mind, eyes, feelings, and their mouth. Because everyone owns all of themselves , they can become intimately acquainted with themselves. By doing so, one can love themselves and be friendly to all parts of their body. Everyone has the opportunity to make whatever they want out of themselves. * I own me & therefore, engineer me.
+ My favorite part of the story was the entire story. I liked the theme and how I felt after reading it.
Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul
Today I read a story called “true beauty”. This is a story about a young girl named Jeannien that wanted to get her mom something special for mothers day. She carefully arranged her mother to have an image consultant. During the make over her mother realized that she had forgotten to take care of herself all those years. She never considered what type of clothes looked good one her or what makeup she should be wearing. Jeannien placed pretty colors close to her face. And her mothers face lit up. She gave her mom a mirror. Her mom Bess could believe what she was looking at. It was a totally different person. She looked like a stranger. Then she turned over at her daughter and said “I’m beautiful. Her daughter smiled at her and said you have always been beautiful. I think that this story shows how much you should appreciate your mom because they give up many things just to take care of their children. They give up part of who they are. I think that what mothers do is beautiful. This makes me feel like I should do something nice to my mom to let her know that I appreciate her.

+ "I Don't Talk to My Closest Friend"
+ This short story was on friendship. One of the girls was a foreign exchange student from Sweden. The other girl was American. They met in the counselor's office. They had introduced the two girls as a formality, but they didn't expect them to get along. After all, they couldn't even speak the same language. They both learned to write perfect English and that was how they communicated. They were inseparable and that amazed everyone. They did not speak to each other, they would laugh, smile and put flowers in each other's hair. They didn't need language to get along, they were the best of friends through words and pictures.
+ My favorite part of this story is the entire story, it was cute from beginning to end. It was amazing to read about a friendship that did not consist of speaking to each other.
